My elderly neighbor came down with it a couple years ago. 2nd documented case in Wisconsin that year. He already had Parkinsons disease and the West Nile really screwed him up bad. He’s always been a super active outdoorsmen and nothing slows him down but this stuff had him laid up in the hospital for 3 weeks. It was touch and go whether he would even live there for a while. When he got out, he couldn’t walk without the aid of a walker for about 3-4 months and couldn’t drive. As he improved he went to a cane but he basically lost the use of his right foot in the end. It took a year of physical therapy but he finally got one of those high tech carbon fiber? inserts to aid his right foot and can now get around almost as good as he did pre West Nile. It’s been a long, tough haul for him but he never complained one bit even when I had to pick him up off the ice because his legs gave out. I’m not so sure I could say the same had I gone through what he has.
