What ratio do you guys mix your oil/gas for your outboards? I like to mix it 32/1 but a buddy insists 50/1 is alright if your not working it to hard (pulling tubes or skiers). I ask why short your motor on oil if your not fowling plugs?

This all depends on your motor. What is the Mgf, model and year?

Technology has come a long way, I do believe 50:1, with todays oil is perfectly acceptable in all conditions, aside from more pollution and increased cost of oil. If your motor runs fine at a higher mixture of oil, I don’t think it’s a problem at all. I’ve owned two motors 70’s and older we always run 50:1 no problems.

Overall I tend to agree with your buddy.

My father ran Amsoil at 100:1 even back in the early 1980s with a 1963 Mercury. Oil has come a long way, and certainly the ultra heavy 16 and 32 to 1 ratios are no longer required with modern oils.

Now with that said, I cannot bring myself to go with the recommended 100:1 mixture on my 1980s OMC outboards. I just can’t do it. I can run 50:1 or 60:1 with good Pennsoil XLF with almost no smoke, so I can’t believe there’s any advantage in cutting the mixture in half and I don’t like the idea of the potential downside.

Ive been running the amsoil 100:1 the last 2 years in my kicker and it seems to run better than ever. No smoke and seems to start easier too. Run it in my saws and other things around the house too. Im very happy with it

Hey 85 Lund are you running Amsoil Sabre or another Amsoil product in your outboard. Would like to try it but not sure which one is for outboard use. Thanks.

Depends if you pre-mix or have an oil-injected outboard. Sabre is designed for pre-mixing, HP for oil-injection systems.
