Looking for suggestions for a weekend (First week of Oct) get-a-way with-in a 3-4 hour drive of Park Rapids MN. We have done the North Shore/Duluth trip many times and are looking for a new destination to try for our anniversary weekend. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Brainerd lakes area. Lot’s of top notch resorts. The only one I can recall by name is Craguns on Gull Lake. Good luck.

I second Ely. My wife and I have had many good times there. She just asked if we were going this year. Probably will in the fall. She’ll grouse hunt with me some and I will shop with her some. Win win. The last time we were there was 2 years ago. Our plan was Grand Marais. Once we got to GM we hated it. Its so artsy fartsy now and there was a festival. Left after being there 30 minutes and headed for Ely. That was one of the best Ely weekends ever. Just responding to this post makes me want to go. I’m going to start planning it now. Funny thing. I got 4 grouse that weekend and can vividly remember shooting each of them. Just like it was yesterday. Weird.

There are some nice places to stay on Vermilion. Fishing not too bad either.

Glenmore – cabin #6 I believe. Perfect honeymooner spot. Wife willl be happy.

Looking for areas with things/ site seeing to do during the day and good dining at night. Will not be fishing or hunting, although I would not mind it but she might:). Would be willing to travel 3-4 hours one way from Park Rapids area. Duluth is about 2.5 hours from our place to give you an idea of distance.

    Thanks for all the ideas.

Yea. If that’s what you’re looking for I would say Red Wing would be the neatest. Wabasha is nice but pretty small townish. Stillwater is nice but pretty big townish. Red Wing is just about right. Plus you can visit Everts. Heck you can visit either of the other two towns easily from Red Wing. Take a drive down 61 or even cross over and run 35 to Wabash then cross and back up. Beautiful country.

    Scott,
Breezy Point north of Brainerd, or a WI Dells.
I can set you up pretty easily at either area for nice savings. PM me if you wish.
    have FUN
