Last time I had that issue, I just replaced the stopper / flap thingamajiggy. I’m an I.T. guy not a plumber, so I don’t really know what its called, but replacing it fixed the issue and was under ten bucks.

first try scrubbing the area where the flapper closes if that dosnt work buy a “Korky” toilet flapper they are very easy to replace and korky’s are the best i think they are like 15 dollars. if that dosnt work it could be a bad valve they are also ease to replace as long as your stop works to shut the water off to the toilet.

    1)shut off the supply (water)
2)flush till the tank is empty
    3) lift and clean the rim where the flapper sits (the seal point)
    4) turn on the water see if that works
if not go to Menards,Wal-mart,hardware store and buy a replacement flapper and repeat steps 1-3 and replace the flapper and your done

    There’s indoor plumbing in Iowa?

if the toilet hasnt had a new flapper in the last 5 years just go put a new one in. Korkies are good flappers.

    Would you just quit it!

Just because we corn haulers have ran to the outdoor privies with our Sears catalogs for longer than everyone else, does not mean that we,, don’t enjoy a good and gentle push of the chromed lever to engage the flap for a fulfilling flush!

During warm weather indoor plumbing is not that important. If you spend enough time trying to noodle for walleyes, business takes care of itself!

I also married an Iowa girl. Her generation is the first to walk upright in her family. Her brothers are both a little slow on the uptake. They root for the Bears, Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes so you can see they are used to losing.

Still too slow to catch sheep eh?
Well, one good thing about Iowa, at least they don’t have any “I’m in charge here” folks walking around on their elbows with both middle fingers up their whatzit claiming they know what’s best for the AIS issue.
Any success stories about that yet?

Im for 4 years out on a 7 year list Mike, indoor plumbing seems to be catching on quickly down here. I hope they have a few cancelations so I can get mine quicker.
