Traditional transom saver question

Since all this transom saver stuff is going on, it reminded me of a question on proper use. I have the “bent pole” transom saver that goes into the little opening bolted onto the trailer frame. When tilting down the motor (225 hp), are you supposed to stop once the lower unit hits the rubber V and gets snug – or are you supposed to trim it all the way down? I’ve only done it the first way. Thanks.

I’ve always just dropped it into the rubber V until it sits nice and snug.

I always lower it until it stops falling, then give it one more quick shot of the down button.

i trim mine all the way down but it’s more to protect the rams of the tilt/trim (dirt, nicks) then anything else. the owners manual for the motor recomends this.

I have since stopped using mine.

Besides if you don’t let your motor all the way down, you’ll get a ticket for transporting lake water.
