Red Door and Waypoint Cafe

We were up staying in a cabin in the Aitkin area last weekend for a quick family getaway. We were in need of a pontoon and found one to rent at the Red Door Resort. The pontoon was essentially brand new and at a reasonable rate from checking around. We took notice of how clean and neat the facility was and how friendly the people were. Later that evening we decided to go back and grab a bite to eat at the Waypoint Cafe. The food was good and the service prompt. Prior to leaving the cafe, we took a minute to speak to the owner, Russ. He was pleasant to talk to and seemed to be working very hard to make his cafe go.

Next year we are talking about staying at the Red Door and I would encourage others to check it out if they are looking for a place to stay.

    Tim,
Without a doubt the Red Door is one of two places that will see my dollars spent at Mille Lacs!

Ok give me the dirt, how was the fishing? From our club, Dave just came from there as well; the report that was given at this morning’s coffee meeting was not pretty. He had a guide and only well,,,,
    Faired a boat ride.

Look’in to head up there mid/later Sept, might have an open bed, if you are interested.

Just spent a couple days up there with the family. Great place, alot more than just a great fishing resort, its also very nice place to bring the whole family. As far as fishing report goes, in the last hour of fishing before we had to leave i finally figured out how to catch some fish pulling leadcore.

Unfortunately, there was no fishing to be had as there were two families and small children that needed entertained. We took our Lund up with us in hopes of getting out, but it did not happen. The only action our boat saw was from the Spirit Lake ramp to our cabin dock. Hence, the pontoon rental that took us from Spirit to Farm Island Lake. This trip was for the wives and kids, so we did not push the issue.

    I need to clarify something,

When I said Dave from our club was just there,

“Just there” was referring to Mille Lacs Lake. His guide service was NOT from Red Door!

There was another lodge on the southern side that provided his fishing for an extremely tough day for all in the boat.

Sorry for the wrongful implied message before! I hope this clears it up.

You won’t find many more pleasant/hard working people than Russ and Anna
