Eyecon or Premier?

Which do you guys think is a better rod? or are they pretty much the same in your opinion?

I have a premier UL, and an eyecon 6’6 MLF. The eyecon broke on a hookset last week and I need to send it in for warranty (less than 8 months old and I take very good care of my equipment). I was thinking about asking them if I can just switch to the premier 6’6 MLF since my UL has been going strong for 10 years.

But with my track record with st. croix warranty, I’m not sure how that would work out.

Premier made in Wisconsin, Eyecon made in Mexico, that was enough info for me to make my decision on which rod to buy.

If you have a little extra dough step up to an Avid. Better blank and a lifetime warranty I think.

They are designed differently…They both are SCII graphite but the Eyecons are lighter in weight with faster tapers available. Faster tapers mean smaller diameters up top.
While your Premier is still going strong, it is UL vs an MLF and not subject to the same line/lure conditions

They may allow you to switch, but also may chg you an extra $20. That was my case with a similar transaction last year.

If they try and charge me $20 I will decline and just sell the eyecon when it arrives and buy what I want. The two rods I am talking about are the same power/action and price (6’6 MLF, $110 retail).

With the $10 shipping to them, $20 check, and then another $20 to switch I would be spending nearly half the price of a new rod just for them to honor the warranty.

And actually, believe it or not I have been using the same set-up on both of them. The 6’6 MLF I use 6lb pline with 1/16-1/8oz jigs for walleye. And the UL I use 6lb trilene XL and 1/16-1/8 oz jigs for crappie. Granted my crappie are not the same size as the walleye I catch, they both get used about the same way and both handle what I usually catch just fine (sheepshead and catfish )

Good point B BK…tell them that if they mention the $20 chg…
I don’t want to be a pessimist but they could also deem it not a manufacturers flaw. Then its 50$ Gold Star plus your 20$ to ship it to them…

Your best deal, (its up to you) would be an upgrade to an Avid…then you get the full price of the Eyecon deducted and a Lifetime Warrantee. You get a new 2012 Avid 66MLF for about $60.
    I always call first!

I would go with the avid also. I would like legends, but avids are great rods. Give some SERIOUS thought to the avid 6″8″ MXF. It’s a great all around rod for blades or jigs. You would LOVE it!!!
