Ma and I had some running to do today and we had planned to go to the south of town since all the stores she wanted to hit were out that way. I needed a new fuel bulb for my outboard and suggested we go do the north stores so I could stop in at Gander without making a special trip. Right.

I got in the store to pick up the bulb and what a shock I got when all they had on any of the hooks was complete fuel line assemblies….starting at $40.00 clams and not one had the black rubber fuel line. All were made of that gray cheap crap. I left there slightly pissed and we took our trade to the south.

After leaving Menards south I drove to Fleet Farm hoping they’d have a primer bulb. Man, they had tons of them and in all of the sizes they come in.

I don’t know why I expected Gander to have something so simple since they can’t stock any jig making stuff or powder paint any more. If you want pink camo underwear for you woman they have piles of that but a primer bulb without $30.00 worth of cheap hosing, something that might be viewed as an emergency type of purchase, can’t be put on a shelf.

SO…thank you Fleet Farm. I do know which direction I’ll head the next time I need something for the boat. Your store is more of a marina supply shop than anything Gander has to offer.

I live less then a mile from Gander and have found it better to try Fleet Farm first. It’s cheaper and they usually have it in stock.

Tom: You can get the pink camo undies at Fleet Farm too. Almost spitting distance from the marine stuff.

I live in the NW suburbs and I have to say that Fleet Farm is my first stop for almost anything except lumber. The store up off 169 in Brooklyn Park is fantastic and the staff is awesome.

Not to be a negative nancy and I like F&F, but if that bulb is made by atwood it will only last a year or two.I’ll spend a few more coin for oem fuel lines that last 10 years.

Gander Mtn is HUNT FISH CAMP…. not a marine store. FF was built the right way, they inventory what people regionally want. I think the Mills could teach most stores how to operate.

Mike, I have found on the Atwood, sometimes I have to hold mine vertical when pumping, to get it to draw initially. I have reclamped a couple times for leaks.

I’d have to mostly agree, I spend way too much at Fleet Farm. I love that place! My only complaint is they are so seasonal. If they run out of something mid season that’s it. They don’t seem to reorder.

I’m sure it’s a way to keep cost down, but it get’s old. I went there the other day and I had 5 things on my list. I found one item and 4 empty pegs. Guess I have to wait until next May to get the summer gear I wanted. I’d still rather shop there than anywhere else though.

Yes, Mills Fleet Farm rocks, especially since they opened their newest store in Carver, just awesome.

No reason to stop at Gander since like everyone else had said, they are always out of what you want. I call them them Wal-MART of sporting goods as a couple years ago stopped to get a map book, they all had Wal-MART price tags on them

Hey Joe, next time check their On Line Store.

I’m like most people, I like to walk into the store. The mixture of rubber tires, farm products and lawn care items has that “come back smell”! LOL!

There are times when shopping on line has it’s benefits and seasonal items is one of them.
