Braid Line

I need some advice on line management. I’ve used and liked braids for years and had gone away from it until recently. I am using it again for it’s small diameter/strength ratio. I still have a bad memory of a deep cut while pulling on these strong lines. How or what do you use to grip the line to tighten knots and to pull a snag free or break the leader when snagged?

Cut off a 6-8″ piece of broom handle or dowel and wrap the center in duct tape if you want. Much easier to pull on that than line.

As for tightnening knots, i use my teeth lol

On the lighter stuff (up to 80 or so) I just press down on the spool so it cant move and pull straight back with the rod to break it. Don’t bend the rod though. On the heavier stuff you need to wrap it. A smooth piece of wood, plastic, or even a water bottle will work well.

For tightening it, never really had a problem there.. what knot are you using?

I use the palomar and a double uni knot to tye leader or to backing.

Thanks guys the finger saver looks great for tying knots and a dowel or broom handle is just the ticket for snags.

Just got my finger saver. $9 well worth the investment!

I keep a pait of heavy leather work gloves and a 6″-12″ long x 1″dia stick. Grap the Stick and wrap the line around it and then around the glove.

No cuts on fingers and gets my lure back.

First however, I always try to position the boat back opposite the snag to see if will pull free without setting the hook in worse yet.
