95 degree temps and flat calm lake conditions usually make for a tough walleye bite. Check out this installment of Hooked Up for tips on how to adjust presentations mid-summer to consistently catch big numbers of walleye.

We caught fish hand over fist for nearly 8 hours at a time when other guys targeting the shallows or fishing bait / spinners on the bottom in deeper water were scratching their heads. I’d go back in a heart beat. Plus it was the first time I’ve ever fished a ‘hot tin roof’ pattern or trolled around a barn.

What kind of speed were you running?

Never mind. I watched more and got the answer.

The previous day we had a good wind and we had an amazing bite up shallow in the trees on jigs and plastics. I know I was plenty impressed with what the lake had to offer.

It took endless coats of sunscreen and a lot of water to make it through that day but I’m glad we stuck it out.

South Dakota — no wind— that sure doesn’t happen very often

I knew something was missing! That absence of the steady whipping sound in the mic was nice.

Yea let me tell you guys this heat out here will not give up. We did get a few inches of rain on tuesday night which basically has increased humidity. It was great to have James out and fish, he brought alot of knowledge from many years in the game. It is so neat to see how no matter where you fish, a walleye is still a walleye . – Quintin
