Why would people even argue the contract? There is no salary cap. Its not like his contract affects ticket prices? I am confused.

I call it the Pohlad Cap,

Mauers contract has forced the Twins into bargain basement pitching.
I think that is pretty obvious!

Name 1 pitcher on the staff who wouldn’t been on the staff before Mauer signed.

The Twins have NEVER had a big time starting pitcher that would have cost them lots of money.

Santana got traded. Geez, there must be more but I can’t think of a really good starter now.

Mauers salary isn’t the reason the Twins are where they are today. If I’m not mistaken they had the 6th highest payroll in MLB last year. Yes they did cut some salary for this year. But looking at this team would you have dumped more into it without having some pitching? No top line pitcher is going to sign here unless he knows there will be another guy that will come with him. Similar to what the Wild was able to pull off with Suter and Parise.

Twins need to get lucky and patch a staff together through the draft and other teams rejects. Just like they did all those years when they were contending.

Dickey, Garza, Losche. Heck, mix santana into that rotation, oh wait, those guys are all gone too. Get back out there Blackburn!!!

    Just a quick question Dutch,

Why do the Twins continue to ignore their starting pitching,When they have had ace on the staff pitching, they either deal hime away, or lose them through free agency.

One man winning batting titles will not bring a world series to the Twins,

    Ask Rod Carew.

Who was the last big time picture that they brought in here for $$$ before Mauer’s contract?

So the real problem here isn’t Mauer, it is the Pohlads. They have been a problem here for a very long time.

Theres no arguing that!! But the Pohlads arent going no where.
Joes contract is a problem, hes a player signed by greedy owners for his “market=ability” not his ability. Who in their right mind would sign a position player with no power to a 23 million dollar contract.
They never paid Hunter more than 12million a year, Im sure he sold just as many jerseys as sideburns has. When we had Hunter they could afford pitchers like Santana.
Fact of the matter is, we wont have a contending team unless mauer is traded for a couple pitching prospects and a decent position guy, or the pohlads open their wallet but this wont happen.
Half our pitching staff now wont pitch to mauer anyway,
