Thought I would give you all a opportunity to jump in and bash him. Might be tough to do though, the only thing you got is he is making $23 million and he is overpaid. Otherwise, he is hitting .333, leads the league in on base percentage, is one of the top defensive catchers in baseball and he has played nearly every game this year.

With ALL the things wrong with the Twins, Mauer isn’t one of them. He has done his job and earned his money thus far this year.

To bad they won’t be able to trade Capps now that he went back on the disabled list.

    Yes………..it’s still baseball season.

Now if he could just hit a home run a little more often…

Just remember, at no point in his life has Joe Mauer been a homerun hitter. One year he hit 28, but his contract was not based on being a homerun hitter. He will average 10 a year for the most part.

Do you think he will win the batting title this year? I made a bet with my neighbor last weekend that he won’t.

23,000,000 / 162 = almost 142,000 per game. so in a game where he averages 4 at bats, 35,000 per at bat. so if in ten at bats he gets 3-3.5 hits per each ten at bats, you are paying 350,000 for ten at bats or almost 100,000 per each hit. not to bad for a glorified singles hitter

For the sake of argument. Lets assume that 2,000 season tickets were sold to see Mauer. Now lets assume another 1,000 people buy a ticket on game day to see Mauer. Multiply that times $40.00 (might be a low number) per seat. Now add concessions and souvenirs for those 3,000 people.

I think you will see that Mauer most likely pays for himself. Can Butera, Blackburn, and the others say that?

Mauer makes a bunch of money no doubt. But if the Pohlads think he was worth the money who am I to argue?

It all depends on if Trout comes back to earth at all
If he does, I think Joe wins the batting title.

I think he is overpaid, and I think the Twins are handcuffed because of that contract.

I know he is a good ballplayer

Hey, lets build a team around our catcher. sub .500 baseball at its finest.
Wouldnt break my heart if they traded him for pitchers, heck greinke and weaver combined make the same as Joe.
Joe Mauer fills a few seats when there is no other reason to go to the game, a team with a shot at the world series fills WAY more seats

For the record, I love me some Joe Mauer. He may be greater than Parise and Suter combined…if healthy. I said the same thing about Lemieux over Gretzky.

Is Mauer your boyfriend, I don’t understand. Yes he is a good ballplayer, but in a club that doesnt have a ton of money to spend he is overpaid.Imagine him playing for New York or Boston, now he isn’t that big of a deal, nor an All Star this year.

I’d be shocked if 50 people went to a game to specifically see Mauer. He is just an average “Joe” with a “good eye”. People go to see there team win and the experience. The Twins management sucks. They are talking about starting to dismantle the team to get whatever they can out of any of the decent sluggers we have now!

    Where have you read that

    A) The Twins don’t have a lot of money. Pohlads have over 2 BILLION dollars in wealth. Paying Mauer or any other players isn’t a issue if it makes sense to the team.

B)Prior to the Twins signing Mauer where did you read that the Yankee’s and Red Sox were not interested in signing him?

I would be interested in you view on what to call a MVP, 3 time batting champion, perennial all star?

Time to put the contract behind. It’s signed, it’s not going away. The Pohlads haven’t once said they regretted signing him. Sit back and watch the best player the Twins have had in years and one of the best in all of baseball.

They probably make enough on Joe Mauer souveniers to pay his salary… you see an AWFUL LOT of Mauer jerseys in the stands… I believe profit on a official jersey is about 300%…

Yeah, I don’t know if the 23,000,000 really matters to the Pohlads. It’s pretty frustrating to be a Twins fan….they dropped payroll I think 20 mill this year with it crystal clear that they’re pitching staff is TERRIBLE. We can argue about Mauer all we want, but he’s an asset to a team owned by some of the richest people on the planet.

Why would people even argue the contract? There is no salary cap. Its not like his contract affects ticket prices? I am confused.

There might not be a salary cap, but its obvious the twins arent going to pay to play, Their payroll is the same with Joe Mauers contract as it was without. So they cleared out 23 million elsewhere. Im sure the Pollads have their own cap.

Good or bad Mauer IS LOVED by the fans. We go to 25 plus games a year and when Mauer is up to bat the fans GO NUTZ. He could be hitting .095 and they would cheer …WHY… Cause they love him for who he is. He is humble ,a Minnesotan and he gives back . also cause my wife loves him too. (and if i say anything bad..im busted) LOL.
