Went fishing with the wife and kids on Saturday. Small lake in the Alexandria area. Caught 150+ sunnies, before the kids wanted to swim and goof off. Was a great day. That night my 6 yr old says “Dad can I sleep with you and mom.” Thought it was a little odd, but said sure he could bring his sleeping bag and sleep on the floor in our room. Next morning at 5:05 am, little poke on the shoulder. I wake out of my sleep and he is standing there dressed, and whispers (to not wake mom) “Dad I started the coffee, can you get up and take me fishing” Besides the mess in the kitchen from his attempt to “make coffee”, it was one of my best days of Fatherhood. Turned one good day on the water to a great weekend on the water.
I try not to push my outdoor adventures on the kids, and with all the electronic temptations they have today, I hope that the boys and I experience many more of these weekends.
Heres to some patience and taking a kid fishing.
