The family and I spent the 4th of July holiday near Silver Bay. And SURPRISE, we got out for some fishing in between hikes at Splitrock, Gooseberry, etc.

I booked a 4 hour trip with Darren Peck, owner/operator of Tofte Charters. This was my first trip with Darren and it was impressive. Top of the line boat, top of the line gear and one he!! of a good guy and guide. He put us on fish pretty much right away.

The main species he was after, was King Salmon – They only come thru this area (Tofte) of lake at certain times of the year, and it just so happened that we got in the King action.

10 Rods out the back of the boat had me a little concerned…. I even told Darren, “I have this vision of tangled cable, lines, dipsy divers, leadcore….” We ended up with zero tangled up lines thanks to Darrens patience and know how.

We boated 5 kings, 2 Coho and 3 Lakers in a little over 4 hours. All the fish came on spoons fished between 30 and 60 down over 75 to 100 feet of water. All fish were caught within sight of Taconite Harbor.

Enjoy the pics – as you can tell, we had an absolute BLAST.

    Cheers,

    Adam
