Rochester’s summer series of free concerts in the park got kicked off tonight and Foghat is the main attraction. We decided to slip down after the intitial rush of people and were able to find some listening room about a block away and across the river from the band stage. Without my hearing aid it was still too loud to enjoy. As we got settled they played Fool For The City and I didn’t have any trouble at all making out the words.

The bugs got ugly where we were at and with the music so darned loud we packed it in and came home. I can hear the music from our driveway a couple long miles away from where the concert is being held.

The local newspaper stated that a record crowd was expected tonight but honestly we saw a lot of people leaving as we walked to where we listened from. Foghat might be a great 70’s band but they need to turn down the loud. This is the first time I have left one of these concerts because the music was too loud and we’ve had some loud ones over the years. This was just too much.

Ya right…chased them across the river.

When I was young Foghat was a favorite group. Maybe it was where we were at that the sound just got amplified. Normally we sit on the bandstand side of the river but were just coming home from out of town and stopped to listen.

There were other people leaving from the area we were in and they were carping about it being so loud too…. and they were lots younger than this bird.

Over the years there have been some outstanding bands down there. If I am not mistaken Heman will be back this year too, eh?

They had to play loud so as to cover up the new lead singers crappy voice. After Dave Peverail died they aren’t the same band.

As ma and I lstened to the music we got to chatting about the 60’s and 70’s and some of the music from that era….acid rock came up. Just as that topic surfaced there was a woman come tripping along the bike path, and I literally mean tripping, barefoot and higher than a kite. She looked pretty tough…as in rode hard and put away wet and had eyes like a couple urine holes in the snow. What a waste of humanity. Tats on all arms and legs along with her neck. I don’t think she knew her name. I don’t think she had a mailing address either.

We do get some good shows down there and for free I guess loud is ok. George will do a good number and we plan to be there as well.

For those of you who like your music loud………….get your Viking season tickets. While the dome was nearly unlistenable the new stadium will be worse. The NFL has removed several restrictions on volume for the home team.

Who foots the bill for the concert series down there? Pretty neat thing the way it sounds.

The city hosts the concerts.I don’t know if they receive some $$$ from grants or what, but we usually get a couple of good names here each summer. The Civic Orchestra gets in one performance so it might be funded thru a program related to them.

They do pass the hat at each shindig. I generally toss in a five spot. Cheap entertainment, fun sitting around eating a picnic dinner waiting for the show to start. In addition to the named performers the shows always open with some group more locally known but still within the realm of the music done by the named group.

Josh Turner and Eric Church were here before really hitting big time. There are others that have been here but these two only come to mind right now. Anyway, the city does good by this. If the weather is rough they move the whole shebang into the civic center.
