I just used a weight calculator I found online to guess the weight of a 43″ pike my dad caught on mille lacs. It had a 19 3/4″ girth and the weight calculator puts this fish at less than 17lbs. I say thats poppycock! Does anybody know of a website with a better calculator. Or do any of you pike enthusiasts have a solid guess?

i agree 17 would be on low side, i would have to say it would be low 20s, with 24 or 25 being on the high side

Did it look thin and hungry? Or fat?

17 pounds sounds about right. i scaled a 42 incher here on mille lacs, a few winters back and it was 16.5. it takes alot more fish to make 20 pounds than most people think. i got a 44 incher last fall on kab that was 18.5, i thought for sure that it was 20, that fish was not skinny either. the weight was the same on a brass spring scale and a 50 pound digital. the brass spring scale checks out with 25 and 50 pound weights.

I have always gone by 40″ is 18lbs roughly and every inch afterwards is 1 pound added on Either way that is a big pike!

Length X girth squared divided by 800 = 20.9 lbs

    X2.

L x G x G/800 is the most accurate and most widely accepted formula for calculating muskie weights. It should be pretty darn close for pike, too.

Without a picture, this is just another fishy story.

The big difference here is GIRTH! A 43 with a girth close to 20″ is going to be a 20 lber or better.

Most Guides carry a good Digital scale… I only use mine upon customer request…because they cut to the QUICK! with an actual weight…
…many times leaving a dissappointed client who thought his 19″ large mouth was 6 lbs…
Sometimes its better to let them dream!

The pictures are on my brothers camera. I’ll be getting the card from him tommorrow, than i’ll be able to post a pic or 2. The fish itself is at the taxidermist who says it’ll be ready in about 8 months. I’ll eventually find out the exact weight
