I think it is time to upgrade my sonar. Dont have a lot to spend on one, around $500. At that price range I know my options are limited. Looking for some input from others on which brand and model, any info would be great.

a loaded question, I think both lines have their fans and critics.

I use an Eagle FishMark 320 and really like it, so count me in the Lowrance/Eagle camp. $500.00 you could probably score a nice unit with higher resolution, color, and gps.

You can get a Lowrance Elite 5 sonar/gps for a bit over 500.

If customer service is a consideration then Bird is the brand to go with.

Bird with HB/LM chips… Depth and shallow water hightlight are awesome!

Just a reminder if you purchase a Lowrance the “Lake Master” cards will not work in them….Hummingbird exclusively owns the rights to Lake Master….hope this helps.

It all comes down to preference, me, I do not like at all how much room on my screen is taken up by those little boxes on the bird, and they cannot be removed.

Thankfully, my one customer service experience a few years ago had a good ending and I think Lowrance now has it own chip out also…
