FYI for all the out of staters, if this continues “unfettered”, don’t think your lakes won’t be next. Starting in the metro areas.

So Sad
Archie is one of the “meek” amongst us, has little in the way of worldly wealth, and yet finds great joy within it
Then, others who seem to be so much more blessed would seek to deprive him of that one thingAbout 2000 years ago, a certain son of Nazareth had quite harsh words for such individuals.

I think Archie should be our poster boy to start fighting back. And I am not being a jerk, I really mean it. He is a great example of how the MN DNR, Lake Associations and Public Official are taking the fun out of boating and fishing. Let me modify that with some.
The question is where to start. Maybe a simple start is to start a petition online to collect email addresses and to be able to deliver a list to all the AIS bullies?
Quite frankly we have a new problem to deal with. Invasive BS. Otherwise known as IBS!
Yes! All of you angered by Roden’s actions please focus your displeasure in the right direction and be the better people here. We simply cannot afford a public scene that makes us look bad.

That’s because the others are miserable and can’t bear to see others finding pleasure in the simple things.July 3, 2012 at 5:51 pm #1080769Quote:
I know you don’t really care about this issue, but there are many people who do. If you’d like, feel free to post a response at IDO Fishing. The link to our discussion is:

Very True, we need to hold our cool and our language, make good points.
Yes, be the better people and support Archie Leizinger.
July 3, 2012 at 6:05 pm #1080777This Kim Roden seems to be at the center of all this controversy. I’m not sure, but isn’t she an elected official in the city? If so, it’s time the residents of Victoria give her the boots.

Sounds like she’s relation to that “woman” that hates the Croix winter access in Bayport. Second cousin to anyone that moves next to a gun range then wants it shut down….

Long live Archie!

It’s her lake and her fish.
How would you like it to look out your window at a beautiful lake and see people in a boat…right next to your dock fishing! They didn’t pay that kind of money for lake shore property to look at fishermen!
Seriously, this has nothing to do with the gentlemen that’s running the launch and everything to do with the “lake grab” that’s going to be rippling through out the State.
July 3, 2012 at 6:46 pm #1080803Careful*** While this situation looks ripe to be dramatized and one person is throwing out words that trigger us -unfettered, implies it’s her lake, etc. The bigger concern is what is occurring at public accesses, not private. If other private accesses need permits and lake service provider training, then so does this one. Despite Archie’s issues. While he may seem a perfect victim to defend, this is about zoning and commerce.
What I’m seeing (and I wish it would capture the enthusiasm that Archie has) is City and County owned accesses being closed to public lakes. As if they were the personal property of the Commissioners. These ramps were built with tax payer dollars and for public use. Are they going to close the County Roads just because some knucklehead might drive to fast on them?
Sure, Save the Archie’s, but how about getting on the bandwagon for the bigger picture?

People don’t like being told what to do and shunned by some rich person that is probably living off daddy’s fortune anyhow.

This IS about the bigger picture. I have a feeling Archie will find the money for his landing, however what stipulations are going to be attached? Or are they going to play the AIS card just to keep the lake “private”. If Archie gets the permit he has every right to charge people to access the public waters.

July 3, 2012 at 7:47 pm #1080831Copy of letter emailed, I will read this if allowed at the meeting this evening.
Dear City of Victoria (Mayor Mary Hershberger Thun, City Administrator Don Uram, City Clerk Jennifer Kretsch, Community Development Director Holly Kreft, City Council & Planning Commission):
Re: Archie Leizinger, Schutz Lake Access
To summarize my thoughts and bring up the points I see that the City of Victoria needs to consider prior to taking any further action in keeping this access closed.
First and foremost have there been any problems or real complaints in the way in which Mr. Archie Leizinger and the people using his access have conducted their use of his private property that would require or truly define this as a business rather than a private citizen allowing people to use his property to access Schutz Lake ?
As a sportsmanand concerned area citizen/taxpayer, it concerns me greatly when I hear how some people are being treated such in the case of Mr. Archie Leizinger.
Trying to force this delightful older gentleman to apply for and pay $1,500.00 for a conditional use permit to allow him to continue to providing a huge public service in allowing access to Schutz Lake seems pretty harsh treatment when in reality he is not profiting from this operation.
This man provides a great service not only to the lake residents and others desiring to enjoy this lake, but a huge social benefit for one of your older residents. From the information I have been able to gather via. the internet, emails and phone conversations, this sounds more and more just a select couple people whom would like to privatize this lake for their own use. It sounds as though the Lake Association is in favor of the access remaining open and the permit being granted.
Without an access open to the public, I would then request that the City Ban ALL Boating and other water activities as such as it would then become impossible for Emergency vehicles & personnel to reach any person in trouble on the water.
As for Zebra Mussels and/or other A.I.S. (Aquatic Invasive Species) entering this lake, I am sure we could work something out with the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District and/or Carver County Parks to see the boats are inspected prior to launching if that is a huge concern.
I fully support Archie Leizinger and the Leizinger families in keeping this access open without a City permit and related RED Tape and Restrictions and to allow Mr. Leizinger to continue to enjoy living out his years enjoying the social interaction with the many people who he allows to use his private personal property to access Schutz Lake in the City of Victoria, Carver County, Minnesota for their enjoyment of a public waters treasure.
Sincerely:
Carroll

Excellent points Buzz. I definitely feel for Archie, but if other private landings need similar permits (local or state) then Archie should too (regardless if he has disabilities).

I asked the people I sent to forward it to the council members.I probably won’t copy and paste the email, because I feel like that is dirty pool publicly displaying a private conversation. However I will find time to paraphrase it.
The one thing I will say is that she felt I was stuck on the one issue of her complaining about people catching fish over and over in front of her dock. I told her it was just one part of it, but I wanted to know why, or even if, she considered that to be a nuisance. I wanted to know because that was the one complaint SHE had that was quoted. She never answered that question.

“Roden said fishermen park in front of people’s docks for hours, catching enormous numbers of sunfish and then throwing them back into the lake. She said she called the Leizinger family to complain, and they told her to call the sheriff.”
Are you calling this a nuisance?
——————–But I do wonder why (sic) problem you have with people catching fish on public water?
—————–Doh, I see I wrote why when I meant what.
July 3, 2012 at 10:59 pm #1080892So why doesnt he just let people on the lake for free? Free access, $6 for a Dr Pepper.
Here is a map of the lake. You can find the landing in the SE corner. Looks like Archie has some very wealthy neighbors on that lake.
July 4, 2012 at 12:03 am #1080901And I thought we had some dumb mother (watch your mouth ) down here . We don’t hold a candle to the people in your neck of the woods . Good luck with your fight !
