This time of year stinks in some ways

I know that we all have to share the water, i know pleasure boaters have just as much right to be there as fisherman. However I seriously believe that this state needs to have a boating class the same as drivers education. Its not just the pleasure boaters that don’t have any consideration for others there are plenty of fishing boats doing the same stuff. Its just irritating when people don’t look before they cut across or when they run 5′ off the end of other peoples boats or zig zag between boats trying to fish an area and i believe its not because the people want to be mean but rather they are ignorant to the “rules” of the water. Ok i’m done with my rant

I agree but there are a lot of people that feel like you are imposing some major inconveniences on them and that it is their god given right to do be on the water without any mandatory certification or licensing system.

    Zumbro?

I’d take this another step: They should require a class with successful completion on boating safety and ethic PRIOR to the purchase of ANY water craft.

Sounds about right. I was shorefishing earlier and a guy comes 10 feet away from me and starts casting out and crossing my line. Then he says, “oh your line is right there”… i wanted to say what i felt but just decided to grab my stuff and move about 60 yards away as there was hundreds of feet of empty shoreline. Is there a unwritten rule about stuff like this? I’d never go within 50 feet of another fisherman or invade anothers spot..

I’m not one for more government involvement, but I agree a boating class would be nice.

I was out last night with some clients and I had a speed boat and a pontoon on separate occasions come by me within casting distance. They always seem to think half throttle makes things better

I agree they had no clue they were too close. They were just happy it was 4th of July week and they could drive their 30-40k toy for the only time all year before it goes back to storage.

My suggestion for a licensing exam is: A General IQ test – you cannot operate a boat motor with a HP greater than tbe person tested’s IQ.
May the Fish be with you.

Problem is high IQ’s many times equal low common sense.

Must have been the weekend for this stuff. I was standing in a trout stream Saturday when this doofus in flip flops walks all the way down river right into the pool I was fishing. I let him have it; I’m sure he learned a few new words and phrases Saturday. How stupid can you get?

I guess that’s why I like Pool 2 in November so much. Nobody left but the good guys.
