I am looking at replacing the cedar deck material tired of trying to keep it looking halfway decent, what would recommend for a composite replacement decking?

Lots of $$$$. Just checked into this myself a couple months ago. It all comes down to what you are willing to spend. I ended up going with green treated on the deck surface and the maintenance free railing. The deck is 10 x 16. If I remember right, a 16′ green treated 5/4 deck board was around $7 on sale. That same board in composite was anywhere between $23 and $44. I just picked up the railing last weekend and it cost about $1200 including the 8′ stair railing. There is a lot of info online, so good luck.

I also asked this question here a couple of weeks ago, mostly asking about opinions about TREX. Not exactly rave reviews- mainly issues with mold. Then someone mentioned AZEK, an all PVC material. We just had a bid done for us- 12×24, green treat for the structure, AZEK for decking, and aluminum railings and spindles. Two stairs and one landing- $17,400 total

17400?? That seems fairly high for 288 sq ft.

Azek is much better than Trex. I have build a lot of decks and we really push azek over trex just because it is so much better of a product. I am a GC and just re decked my neighbors 6 year old trex deck with azek deck and azek rail, huge improvement

I have a somewhat new cedar deck. I would never change it to anything else however I would like to know different ways to clean them an restain and seal. My deck has full sun so no mold, moss or anything like that.

That all said if a storm came and blew it all away I would get a composit.

I have Trek on our deck and not impressed. Lots of money and lots of fading of the color.

OK- so what is the going rate for 288 sq. ft.? Just need a little ammo to have a rebuttal for the builder(s)

Check out GeoDeck. My favorite composite. It is a hollow core so it radiates the heat better then the solid composites. It also has a brushed finish so if it ever gets scratched you can just wire wheel it out.

As a rough idea the composite decks are approx. 3 times more expensive than cedar (that is with maint. free railings).

Feel free to shoot me a message with any questions…

I am so much opposed to people looking at sqft cost when building things. It is no different than asking a truck dealer how much a truck costs per pound. It all depends on the inclusions of material and tasks.

Though I do agree that number sounds a bit high without knowing everything that was included. I completed this deck for a client at 13,600. Completed, it was about the same size. LV lights on the post tops and all steps, Timber Tech PVC product with an inlaid field, 2×10 carriage/ 6×6 posts, PVC fencing for skirt material, and a PVC fence/ sound barrier for hiding the Air conditioner unit. I build decks like a brick crap house. I figure if I can park my truck on it, I’ll never get a call back for anything. Never have!
