Brian, I am sure it will be salvaged before any flatheads can take up residence.

With the way that the top is on, I am hoping that it just broke away from where it was docked.

I predicted when that stupid law went into effect that there would be the loss of one or more lives because of it and I feel more sure today than I did then. It will just take the right conditions for it to be fatal. Older person or poor swimmer—add in river current and cold water and it will be a sad headline.

I remember one time at our cabin on Balsam Lake we forgot to put the plug in before launching. We had three big guys in the boat (plus all the water-we found out later) the boat wasn’t sitting low enough to be noticeable, but on a spot we normally go through idling anyways and have no problem with the motor trimmed down all the way down we hit something HARD! Lake was at normal level and everything, but that small drop from the water in the boat would be enough to do the trick if we were going faster. Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. Not good

Look, guys, I hate to be the buzzkill on a good opportunity to complain about the plug law, but reality is knockin’ so somebody’s gotta answer the door.

That boat is at least a 26 footer. It is pretty damn unlikely that the owner just backed her off of the ol’ Shorlander that morning and forgot to put the plug in. Also, even if it did go down this way, most cruisers have a bilge alarm so he’d have heard all about it. And even if he had left the plug out, most cruisers have enough pumping power to keep it afloat even with a plug out at least long enough to get the plug in.

At a guess, I’d say a bellows failure is way more likely and a good tear in the bellows would bringa boat that size down and down pretty fast.

OK, normal service may now be resumed.

Hey, wait! Maybe it was ethanol what done it? I heard my brother-in-law’s second cousin’s third husband’s father in law had the exact same thing happen to him and he took small engine classes in high school and said ethanol does this kind of s#!t all the time.

How did this go from hitting a wingdam to forgetting to put a plug in?

The reason he didn’t notice his plug was out because he was too busy taking off the AIS stickers that someone told him he no longer needed.

Ethanol! I blame ethanol! It’s eating out your innards.

Nobody ever had that problem before they started putting ethanol in the gas.

Lots of good blame to go around on this one, I am surprised nobody pegged the new fees for the Hudson launch as the cause to go with the boat plug and Government supported ethonal program….

How far does that boat have to sink in order for any citizen to claim it legally?
My friend knows the law pretty well he actually tried to claim a sheriffs boat that was wrecked on Pool 1 years ago.

They laughed and said your nuts dude! He sat and argued with them for a bit to no-avail.
