Noticing grey smoke when under power towing the box trailer. First time that’s happen. No error codes, no significant loss of power, no discoloration in the coolant, no change in crank oil level……

I’ve had the injectors replaced once already on the recall. Getting a lot of different “opinions” and need a way to identify exactly what’s up. I can’t afford the “Try this…” method.

    What make, year is it?

That’s the problem with these new diesels and the dealerships. Not a lot of trained, experienced techs out there. Most general repair shops won’t look at a diesel. I’ve suffered thru that many times with my trucks, could be this, could be that. Gets spendy real fast- -jerr

Didn’t think the new Ram diesels ever needed working on. Only the old 5.9 clunkers (like mine) ever fall apart jerr

Sounds like headgaskets are starting to go. Hope not, that is not a cheap fix, $700 for the studs alone. I can verify when I talk to a friend of mine tomorrow.

They all do Jerr Randy, ’01 GMC I would not be much help with. Is it just smoking when pulling a load ? Do you ever add additives ? Stanadyne ?

Saw my neighbor’s ’06 Duramax is smoking pretty bad while idling. Have noticed more doing the same thing lately. Wondering if that’s not a problem with them. jerr

Sign up on duramaxforum.com those guys are real good at diagnosing and giving you solutions. How many miles since the injectors and do you run stanadyne or dieselkleen? How long since fuel filter?

I run the Kleen products in the fuel, about 140K on the injectors ( nearing 300K on the truck), fuel filter is changed every 6 months.

I would start with a new filter and if it’s still doing it take it to a reputable gm dealer and have them check balance rates on injectors

Yikes, I paid less than that for my first truck! Put 40k miles on it and never sunk another dime into it! Sounds like time for a trade in! Let the dealer fix it for someone else under the 3 month warranty. $3900 would make quite a few payments on a new(er) truck, just sayin. Can an independent do it cheaper for ya?

That was an independent. Dealer wasn’t far off either. I’ld just do it myself, but I don’t have the place for doing a tear down like that. Luckily, I’m just blowing unburnt fuel through the system so I can continue to drive it for awhile. Eventually, trade in or fix

More like Craig’s list or Ebay. Wouldn’t have the nerve to do that here
