Another river tragedy…

Taking my kayak on the St. Croix today, I was alarmed to hear many sirens from ambulances, firefighters and police. They made their way to the end of the boardwalk in Hudson, WI. They were in and out of the water with their Dept. boats. When I decided to leave they were still out there. I finally got home now and found out a teenager had drowned. Reportedly, the boy had tried to swim, across the channel, to the MN side, where he struggled and drowned. Divers and police crew were trying to find his body all evening and still searching.More info on the incident.

Please be smart and safe, high water levels = faster current. This could’ve been a different outcome, obviously, if the teenager, or family thought it over a bit. Prayers go to the family…

Very sad indeed. I can’t tell you how many close calls i’ve witnessed on that stretch of the river channel over the years. Unfortunately, there are at least a couple people each year that don’t make it.

Some of us were raised to respect the river and know what it’s capable of, but unfortunately there are some that have no idea how strong that current actually is.

Rivers are no place to take a leisure swim.

my heart goes out to the family! I cont imagine the grief the parents must feel!!” But I can remember being that age and doing things just like this! I could have had the same fate as this young man many times over as many of you probably could have as well!

its the unforseen problems we never think of.. Hope they find him and prayers go out to the family///

I saw the sheriff zoom by us with his lights flashing last night down by Afton. Sounds like it was a kid my girl just graduated with at Stillwater HS. I told her the same thing happened to a friend of mine in 1984. The Croix seems to claim a few people each year.

    So sad!

As a father of two teen agers and a dad who was not and is not perfect, my prayers go out to this family. I did much worse as a kid and survived. I have let my kids go down to the pier and swim. There is no fault, just unfortunate. God speed and my prayers to the family. Sometimes life is not fair and there is no explanation. Life is not always fair.

Exact same spot we pulled a guy out that was in trouble two weeks ago. What a useless senseless loss of life.
