I used to waste my money on garys over priced garbage and then i started buying gander mountains version of the stick worm. Not saying garys worms dont work but sometimes they fall apart before you even catch a fish. Gander mountain offers a worm that works just as well and hold together much better than some of the other over priced stuff out there. plus u get a couple more worms than gary offers you for almost half the price and they throw in a hook.. Not hating on gary just hating the price of his senkos when other worms work just as well.

I don’t think you truely understand the purpose of a stick bait. They are supposed to be soft as possible and heavy so they wiggle and vibrate on the fall. Some brands come close, but yamamoto’s are the only ones that truly nail the movement. Of course they all catch fish, I have caught bass on plastics that look like turds, but don’t knock the senkos.. they are the best on the market by far.
The reason you are paying so much is because of Gary’s way he makes them. They are a mix of salt and silica sand to achieve the proper weight without making the bait stiff. No other brand does this, they all use straight salt to cut costs. This ends up making a good bait, but not a great bait.
Anyone who has ever used a yamamoto senko knows the incredible action it has.. you just cant find it anywhere else.. some come close, but none have it.
I don’t understand how bass fishermen can pay $400 for a rod and reel, $40,000 for a boat, $30,000 for a truck, spool up with $20 spools of line then buy off brand lures. Last I checked, the fish dont care what you are riding in, driving to the lake, fishing with in your hand, or what the bait is connected to the rod with, they care about that bait in front of the nose.
June 16, 2012 at 2:49 am #1076384thanks! gary lost me as a consumer over a year ago and i continue to catch big bass!
June 16, 2012 at 3:08 am #1076388While I still stick with Yamamoto products, the Strike King Perfect Plastics stick bait called the Ocho is the one I rely on right next to the original Senko.
June 16, 2012 at 3:09 am #1076389Just picked up a few packs of yamas and have no problem spending the extra 2 bucks a pack for a better bait.
June 16, 2012 at 3:31 am #1076391like i sad..not hating the senko..it works great. just not buying them no more.

June 16, 2012 at 5:13 am #1076397I use Gander’s for prefishing BUT Yammato’s are better Senkos.
The Gander Senko is much firmer than the Yamamoto which in turn gets it spit out a lot faster. One reason why it’s awesome for prefishing. Also the gander sinks way to fast compared to the other. I like to fish it very very slow. Nothing beats the scent and soft of the Yamamoto plastic.
As for it ripping, buy O-Rings, they save you 100’s of senkos.

June 16, 2012 at 8:06 pm #1076434As an avid bass fisherman who prefers to fish plastics i know the senko works very well. I’m just saying i havent noticed a change in how many fish i catch without it. i have noticed the money i save by going with a cheaper plastic that, for me, works just as well. The reason i called it garbage is because no matter how i fished it..it fell apart..sometimes before i even caught a fish on it. i’m sure someone could tell me how to fish it better though..
