Looking at a 1999 crestliner with a oil injected 90 hp johnson. Was wondering how everyones luck with these johnsons have been. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think mine is a 2000. It’s on a 1700 Lund and seems to perform fairly well. I have had zero problems with it in the three years of owning this one. With me, wife, and everything in the boat, it runs about 38 mph by GPS. No complaints here. It would be nice to have a bigger faster motor, but this works very well for what we use it for.

I am far from an expert but it is my understanding that the oil injection system on these is unreliable. I have a 1997 Johnson 115 that had the oil injection system removed. I am sure that someone on here knows more about this potential issue than I.

I have a 2000 150 and I’ve put a fuel pump in it and a CDI but other than that it runs great and runs real strong compared to a lot of newer boats with the same size motor. I wouldn’t be afraid to buy another.

Gup, I hope you’re reffering to used because new are no longer made. Evinrude strictly produces only E-Tec’s now.

I’ve had a ’96 115 HP Johnson for better than 10 years. It runs like a top and the only issue I’ve had with it is the lower unit I had to replace on LOTW. Mine has not had any oil injection issues.

I have a 1992 90 HP Johnson with the original oil pump on it and it runs great.

I had a 60 and a 90 early to mid 90’s.Had very good luck.My dealer did recommend with the older VRO’s.If you run them in very cold weather 40 degrees or colder.Add a little oil to you fuel tank.In cold weather it takes a while for pump to move the stiff oil.So you run pure gas for a while.I removed it from my duck boat as it saw some mornings near zero.Wish I still had the 90 hp.the 60 not so much.
