With mulit-hooked umbrella rigs illegal in Minnesota why would this state specific magazine have a full page add for them?!?! pg. 13 I am either missing something or they are morons. Which is it?

If I remember right, they are part of a national magazine buy, so the ad was included in MN Sportsman.

I picked up what I thought was the Minnesota Sportsman while in Lincoln, NE. I discovered it was their area version of the magazine. The only difference I saw was their focus on catfish, which I liked, and their discussion of small river fishing, which is a very common choice for many of the locals. Some of the ads were identical in the MN MAGAZINE.

I saw that too. I thought there should have been some kind of disclaimer on that ad or something about checking local laws – unless I missed it…

if you go to [censored] they sell umbrella rigs. I asked them about this and they said bass generally hit the bottom bait so some people just through one bait out on the bottom wire. I told him that it didn’t make sense.

    MSM–>doesn’t make sense either.

I think it’s published in Florida. I like reading the articles by Ted Peck in the Wisconsin version.

That isnt so bad, I had a guy from minnesota tell me how he nailed the bass on A-rigs last week… I paused for a second and said “isnt that illegal there?”. He replied “I cut off all but 2 wires, and just ran one swimbait on the bottom and a blade on top”…. I said “isnt that a spinnerbait?” Never got an answer.

Who turns a $20 rig into a spinnerbait?

Can you go to WI, IA or the Dakotas and use them?

Modified, yes. You could even use them on the miss river in MN water as long as you only have 2 hooks on it.

OR….. Have 5 guys in the boat, then you could run a hook on each one. Might have to fight over who gets to reel in the fish.

It is my understanding that it is not illegal as long as you place one bait with a hook on one wire and hookless spinners or plastics on the other wires.
