We had a great day to fish Saturday and with Sam and I pulling the 75th boat out of 90 something boats we were pretty nervous. One thing we were excited about was our weigh in time being extended to 3:30.

At take off we had decided to head to our money spot right away, like most people would do. This spot had produced upwards of 50 fish the weekend of prefishing. We arrived at our DOCKS and slop at around 7:30 in the morning and had a limit by 8:30, then the carp started rolling…

Right when the carp started rolling I told Sam we needed to get out of there because the carp had spooked everyone of our fish. So we left in search of our second best producer that weekend. Side note, later we did return to the spot to see if the carp had stopped rolling, no luck.

We arrived to a sharp millfoil wall and right away Sam connected with a 2 1/2 that helped our bag. The fish under the millfoil were scattered throughout the area. They were hard to locate so that bite was tough, especially since I didn’t have specific boulders marked on GPS.

We spent the rest of the day running to millfoil walls without very much success and did end up findind a 4lb under a dock. I also dropped a 5lb on that same dock

We weighed in 12.5lbs and didn’t receive a specific place singe 3 flights had weighed in ahead of us. What I was told by people who stayed from the first flight was that lots of people didn’t weigh in because they didn’t get a limit. I was told we probably took somewhere between 35 and 50 place. Which was an accomplishment for us since it was the first time in that tournament.

The people who did beat us were all up in the 20lb range. There was no weights between 13 and 18 really.

All together the carp messed up a lot of people’s bites. But it was a great day! Lot’s of fun and a great experience. It was also great seeing a family member and mentor “Billy Bartusek” weigh in a 25lb bag and take home a 3rd place check.

Good, job. You learn every time you fish a tournament. As a fellow tournament angler my advice to you is no spot should ever produce 50 fish during practice! That’s 50 you won’t catch in the tournament. I rarely set hook in practice anymore, unless you have a boatload of active spots assume at some point during the tournament day you’ll fish the areas you got ‘bit’ in practice, might as well save em.

By 40 fish I didn’t bring them all in. I caught a few 5-7 day’s earlier and just marked em. I pulled the worm out of a lot of mouths without setting the hook

My nephew works with the the guy who took 5th place with something in the neighborhood of 24#s. Apparently they caught 4 over 4#s. They lost missed 1st by…4oz.

This guy lives on the lake, so he has a pretty big advantage in that tourney and I think he’s won it a couple times and is usually in the top 5.

Modified worm sorry I’m not spilling that family secret.

Pug yea the guys who fished that lake all week had a huge advantage because the fish shifted so much with the warm up. It was riciculous. Do you by chance know a name of the guy?

Do you know where the results are posted online? I can only find 2009 results. Curious how an old friend did.

Cody Zdrazil. He’s one heck of a stick on that lake most tourneys. We worked together at Gander and fished together quite a bit years ago.

I recognize the name I think he was in the first flight though so I didn’t see him weigh in.

It may have been 4 or 6oz? I cant remember what he said. Either way it was a very close finish.
