depending on how many rods you are going to run, i’d set up with a couple of LONG rods and a couple of SHORT rods. It will space your lines behind the boat.

I went with 10′ Berkley AIR rods and some 7’ers. I like stiffer action, but that’s a personal choice.

Both of my lead core rods are ugly sticks. They work great for this application. Spend your money on reels.

Stu – thanks for the reply, i like stiffer action too for a lot of stuff, but everyones so adimate (spelling? ) on a soft tip for impact absorbtion. My dad uses 6 foot heavy actions no backing no leader been doing that longer i been around (26 years) does him just fine, rods are so old brand and action info non existant

suzuki – thanks, what im leaning towards…big fan of ulgy sticks just questioned using leadcore with em, think im gonna end up splitting the difference between stu’s sizes and get 8’6″ lengths

Talk to Deano and he’ll get you setup with some LimitCreek Leadcore rods – telescoping 8’6″ wprl great for me.

    8’6″ LimitCreek LC

It’s all personal preference and if you care to read the tip of your rod I guess – but when I’ve got 100ft of lead out and cannot tell if my lure is fouled, it drives me nuts. 100+ft of lead out with one of those and I can still read the tip running a #5 Shad Rap, which to me is well worth the money. I’ve got an Ugly Stick LC setup and while it will catch fish, most of the time I can’t tell if I’m dragging weeds or pulling my crank.

Again it’s all about person preference, how much you plan to pull lead, and what you expect out of a LC setup.

Good luck with whatever you decide on – pulling LC is additcting!

Cabelas would be a good place to start, then work up to the Air and Limit Creek rods later. As Pete said, it doesn’t take too long before you want to read your rod tips.

I use the 5 ft Peregrine Superline/Leadcore trolling rods [nicknamed the shorties] and also the cabela’s Depthmaster trolling series 6’6” leadcore rods. I have also used the Diawas 10’6” Heartland rods but gave them to Nate as he uses that length more than I do. My rods have Okuma line counter reels on them. Alot of people also use Diawa line counter reels too. The first two rods I mentioned are my favorites.
    Thanks, Bill
