i’m hauling my boat to Upsala Ont. for a week in late June.
is there anything you would do to your boat and trailer before leaving on such a trip. bearings are repacked and motor tuned up. hauling lights are all working. anything else?

spare, air in spare, jack and tools ready, extra bearings are not bad to have along as well.

make sure boat batteries are holding charge and charged. bring external battery charger as well as onboard. extra prop onboard. Make sure to have been on the water prior to work out kinks.

    have fun

Canada has some interesting laws. Your safety chains are required to have those rubber things so they can’t come loose. I believe you are required to have a whistle in the boat. If you are hauling gas I think you can only have 35 US gallons in cans. Somebody will know more about this.

Unless you have a very heavy duty cover (like most newer Ranger covers), I would not pull it up there with the cover on. I have a pretty decent snap on cover and I had a seam pull apart on the way. BuckSlayer shredded his cover on a trip to Vermilion on another trip. Just pack your stuff in the boat that can get wet.

Also make sure any of your dope smoking looking buddies (if you have any) are riding in the other vehicle.

i would also suggest having a flare or two along if you have to work on the thing on the side of the road in the middle of the nite.

i use the LED flares that go on the top of my planner boards as they were originally designed for roadside.

And drive the speed limit in Upsala. I go through there several times a year and he is ALWAYS out. And yes I have learned from experience

In addition to the stuff already mentioned, spare, etc, I’d reiterate the extra set of bearings and all the tools to change them on the side of the road. Punces, BP hammer, paper towles, grease, etc.

I also throw in a couple of sets of disposable work gloves, so if I have to change a bearing or do anythin else with grease, I can wear those and then throw them away later.

I’m also a big fan of having some of those ratcheting tie-down straps. You’d be amazed at what you can fix with those. Busted weld on a trailer frame? Yep. Broken leaf spring on trailer? Yep. Heald together with a couple of those straps.

Other items I always have: Sportsmans Goop adheasive, JB Weld, duct tape, two long tow straps with schackles, two working flashlights with extra batteries and a headlamp.

If your boat is over 19ft(I think) you will need some flares in the boat. Also an Orange throw cushion, not camp color. Flashlight too.

Bring 2 paddles, a throwable life float, 20 ft of floating rope, make sure youre positive and negative posts on youre batteries are covered. If you read the book of canadian regs for youre boat they almost have the same regs as youre home state. Also bring a spare key for youre boat and car.
