my sony tv gave up the ghost on Sunday night. I need to buy a new tv.. I want a 55 inch tv with at least 240 mhz of refresh speed. where do I go for the best deal? Sam’s Club, ( which I have a membership) Costco, ( where I do not, but would if it was worth the price) or somewhere else..

I know the pro’s here on this forum, have the answer. Thanks in advance. and Yes, its does seem like, I have had a few needs as of recent posts. when it goes , it all goes at once. you know the drill.

Best Buy, Sam’s and Costco for viewing – then on to Amazon.com for best price and liberal return policy.

    Enjoy.

as a vendor ot them and being BBY is local please give them hard consideration. they are matching Amazon pricing in some cases and you can take it home with you.

    BESTBUY X2.
55 inch and the mhz you’re looking for will be tought to find a lesser non technology stores. Also many times in the store if you have a comparable model number 120 and BBY is a 240 they have matched that for me in the past. It’s worth a shot.

    Best Buy
pricing between Amazon and Best Buy is really not an issue. Look at the finer points of who you are buying or what condition the TV is on Amazon. (sometimes it is from Dan’s electronics who sells from his garage or a reconditioned model).
with Best Buy you get a 60 day price match policy, can pick it up right aways and can return/exchange it easy. also have rewards program to get free stuff. just my two cents.

I would look at the new panasonic or samsung models. they are sweeeeat!

certainly understood. try the Richfield store. they are remodeling to the new format. i have been down there several times. they seemed to have changed their attitude towards customer service.

I bought a 55 inch 240hz tv from Sams. We love it. It was a return. Bought it for $980.00.

I posted a while ago about NoBoxTVs and nobody responded. I am still curious if anyone has experience. They are dirt cheap and have a 1-3 year warranty.

I bought my last 42″ 240hz refresh at Sam’s Club and it has been solid.

Had the same issue and was looking for about the same exact tv as you.

Best Buy – absolutely terrible experience. Both the girlfriend and I were so upset we wanted to quit looking at tv’s.

Costco – Customer service was decent, prices were competitive, and they double the mfr warranty. Based on that and selection our final choices were from Coscto. We picked up a Samsung and are very happy.

Sam’s Club – we do not have a membership so I can’t speak to that

Amazon – probably could have done slightly better on price. The added warranty and convenience of getting it local won out.

    good luck

I’d go to Sams Club, then to Best Buy. I’ve had good service at the Woodbury Best Buy and I like to be able to see and compare models.

I’m not a fan of Amazon for bigger items like a TV. As others have said, you really have to watch the fine print because in many cases you are buying ON Amazon, not FROM Amazon. Big difference if you have any issues and having to return a big screen TV at your own expense will totally wipe out any savings.

Just bought a new TV from Best Buy last December. Sony. Love it, nice to see Sony still making quality stuff.

The other thing to pay attention to is that Best Buy and Sams have buying power and the “name brand” tv you get from them may be made exclusively for them and not have same features as the normal market tv. Found this with a 46″ Samsung I got a few years back.

Best Buy has a Sumsung 55″ on sale this week I think it is the 6000 series it is 120hz not 240hz but half the time the 240 refresh makes the picture less then best. But stick to the Samsung line they have the best picture out there.

I have used Best Buy for almost all my electronics, Eagan, Eden Prairie and Minnetonka stores and have been treated well every time I’ve been those stores so I have been very happy with them.
They also have no interest financing for purchases over X dollars which is pretty nice too.

I would prefer to buy a 240 mhz due to watching football. I would consider buying a plasma, but the room I am putting it in,is surrounded by windows. and possibly too much glare.

I was informed that my purchase will have to wait until, unless we find the deal that We can’t pass up, or until September, due to the other expenses that we will have this summer. We have two out of town reunions and an out of town wedding to go to.

however, these things work themselves out. we may go some where and the right tv for the right price will be staring us in the face. Its how we bought our Nikon camera. we got the floor model at Sams. the price was such, that we had to buy it.

but guys, thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. for me, it looks like Sams club is going to be my place. Best Buy has treated us so very badly, I just can’t see going back there for such a major purchase.

    thanks again for your comments.

it makes a difference watching live sports like football. if I am going to spend the money. I want to get the right stuff the first time, so I don’t have to buy it twice. but I do appreciate the article. for video , it makes a ton of sense..
