What do most prefer when making crawler harnesses, fluro or mono? I was going to get some 14lb. fluro but I hate tying the stuff and was thinking of going mono. Thought? Thanks

Personal opinion only. Either is fine with me. Never seen a need to go heavier than 12lbs, even on the great lakes. 10 pound for most of my fishing on Mille Lacs works just fine.

I prefer fluro just because it is a more abrasion resistant and sinks.

I kinda base it on the fact that flouro sinks and mono floats.

The fact that fluoro sinks, is the very reason why I don’t like it for crawler harness or slow death rigs.
I prefer my rigs “not” sink any more than they are going to already with all the hardware.

Personally, I like Trilene XT for these applications.

14# Vanish. The blade provides the lift you need don’t worry about it sinking. I prefer flouro because it’s more abrasion resistant and less like to break off when the fish shakes in the net.

Maybe I go too light. I usually use 8 pound in vanish ot XT.

8-10-or 12# Fluro for me. No particular brand but I have had the most knot problems with Vanish.
I also use Fluro for my crawler rigs. I get by the sinking problem when using SD hooks by rigging ’em so I can place an in-line float 10-12 inches up the leader…and on lake like Mille Lacs, these leaders could be 8 to 10 feet long…crazy maybe, but sometimes that’s what it takes.

On my Great Lakes flies I tied I used 30# Fluro….all on 30″ leaders then cut them back to what-ever is right for the flasher or dodger I’m using….
