i know i said i was done with cheap trucks, but i went to check out this truck today that was advertised as a 78 f150. it was a RANGER f150! mudding was a big thing in my hometown and the ranger was an absolute beast in the mud! needs a little work but runs and drives great! only ting i dislike is its an auto, but i can compromize. ITS A RANGER!

Till 79 or 80, the ranger was a package offered on full sized f150’s. I think it was basicly an off-road package.

I hope that’s a toy and not a daily driver, otherwise I’m guessing the monthly fuel bill and maintenance cost on that truck would about equal a monthly payment on something much newer. Sometimes “they don’t make them like they used to” for a reason…
    Congratulations and good luck.

looks like a great project… more pics!! ditch the tool box and running boards… hood looks good. at least one OK door. jack it up, change the coolant, throw some good oil in it, replace rear end oil, air filter. maybe plugs and wires. that should be a fun afternoon… I’d get those wheels and tires right off. inspect/clean or replace… keep us up to date and drop me a PM every once in awhile with progress… $500 nice find!!!

Sounds great! I need more pics!! Seen some great wooden stake beds at the car shows recently. In combo with a bed mounted fuel cell. (ditch that gas tank) just a thought.
Might want to post some questions at F-150.com to get some history on the model etc.
I’m off to champlain for a few days tommorrow, keep us up to date. For $500 you did great!
