Ok, seems my battery operated filet knife went bad sitting for 12 years. Can’t imagine why…

So, what do I replace with: Electric 120v or Battery??

    Opinions??

    Electric all the way..

My battery model has gone through 2 replacement batteries in 3 years.

I have a 12V converter for remote use with 120.

My rapala electric fillet knife can be run off a 120v AC outlet, a 12 v battery, or an accessory plug in a vehicle. Not exactly cordless, but could be used away from civilization if needed.

I like the electric knife, but almost never use it except to cut freezer corn. I prefer a nice sharp fillet knife to cut up fish in almost all situations.

Electric is the way to go. It just doesn’t seem like the battery knives are fully perfected yet .

I like the electric. All the cords can be a pain but I don’t have to worry about a dead battery. Plenty of power options with a/c and d/c cords that came with my Rapala one.

It depends on your use Stu…when I was at Everts for a week or two with a buddy, keeping only a few Eyes each day I used a non electric Rapala.

Ten years ago, When the Yooper Invasion team from my church started coming with 6 guys instead of two, we started doing white bass fish frys and filleting the Sauger/Eyes we took home. I switched to an electric because only two of us could fillet well (I DO NOT ALLOW ANY BONES TO BE FOUND!) So, my partner Al and I had 20-30 whites and 10-15 Sauger to fillet after a long day of fishing…

I am switching over to the new Rapala Lithium Ion cordless knife ($89 MSRP). That sucker is unreal! My buddy Mark powers through White Bass rib cages for over an hour w/o any loss of power, then fillets some Crappie and 4 or 5 sauger…

Plug it in when you’re done and its ready for the next day.

It is hard to beat the electric. It seems that the batteries always run down when i need them. -(

    Get both
Buy a battery one and go to the second hand store and get an electric for $4. You do not need the pointy end blade and when it poops out get another one or two.

A buddy got a 10 buck Black and Decker at Wal Mart and was raving about it. so i got one a couple months back, too, and it really cuts well.

I have this same knife and it is holding up very well. My experience in the past with other battery powered knives has been poor… the Lithium Ion from Rapala has far more power than the other battery powered knives I’ve used and it has a longer run time as well. I knocked out a pail of jumbo perch this winter with juice to spare. I can’t comment on longevity of the knife yet given I’ve only had it since January… but so far so good and it is definitely the best battery powered knife I’ve used to date.

Bought the $29 rapala 120V and will probably buy the lithium knife later. Glad that the blades are all interchangable.

go with the 120v electric! the cordless ones dont have the power and the batteries just dont last long. There not to bad when there brand new but by the end of the first summer there junk…

the rapala cordless knife blades are really good and they fit in the 120 volt electrics! use the 120 v knife with the rapala blades there’s not a better combo out there

I hate the cords but also hate loosing battery power.
    I just recently purchased the
    Berkley® Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Fillet knife.
They say 1 hour on a chrage and man does it charge fast.

I’ve only cleaned about a dozen or so walleyes with it so far so can’t give 100% feedback yet but I can say it doesn’t seem to loose power like my Rapala battery knife did.

    We’ll see

I’ve got the corded Rapala. The cord is nice and long, so it rarely gets in the way or makes me filet in awkward places or positions.

Did a dozen saugers last nite and the power of the 120v was great. I was done in minutes.

I would like to get a finer blade, but that’s probably in the works. i bought an after market longer blade and it did do a reasonable job, but i did leave bit of meat on the carcass because of the width of the blade.
