Best Buy has them on sale for $69.00 in store (Rochester for sure but probably statewide) and $79.00 online.I picked one up from our local store. I couldn’t pass up that kind of deal. I know some guys on IDO have them or have talked about them. Any input from you video buffs on how you like them? Any tips or tricks?

I love mine. Its fun playing around and getting underwater shots. I got mine as a package that came with a wrist strap that floats, so don’t have to worry about losing it over board either.

I’ve had some glitches where it seems to start filming at double speed and then it catches up after a few seconds. I think I need to replace the SD card it came with to one that is higher quality and has a higher transfer rate.

    That’s my only complaint.

I film at the 720 60FPS setting, just in case I want to edit some slow mo in there when I start editing.

Also, use the under water color correction when filming underwater. It works beautifully.

Thanks Pug, and I definitely want a floating wrist strap.

I have the ZX3, I believe. It works well. Haven’t shot anything underwater, yet, but I have had it in the pool.

I suppose I could read the spec….but I’ll just ask…does it take stills also?

Yes, you can take a photo with it, but the resolution isn’t going to be very good.

The on-camera edit feature is nice, as well as the ability to take a still pic from video. I think the still pics are good quality…better than my crappy phone pics anyway.

I made a floatee from a chunk of noodle and put it on the wrist strap.

We now have two of these cameras. The $69 price is also at Target. My kids love that camera…easy to use!

They’re not bad. I think 5 megapixel stills. I used it to take some stills of my son in the pool, and they look fine.

I stand corrected then. I’ll take you two guys word over mine. To be honest, I haven’t really used it as a camera. I spoke out of turn.

I have a camera on me at the same time, in fact 2, so I take stills with those. The second camera is a really old camera, but I set it to take macro photos which it does an outstanding job, even better than my newer camera.

I know what you are thinking. All those cameras and you never see any posts. Yeah, that’s how good a fisherman I am.

I don’t generally use it for stills. I usually have my point-n-shoot with, as well as my Evo 4G takes pretty good photos, but neither of those is waterproof!

I really need to figure out the glitch. It seems to only happen when I am moving the camera. It might just be that my mind is playing tricks on me because of the frame rate.

Pier, Ryan, anyone, have you tested side by side the different resolutions? Particularly 1080 30FPS, 720 30/60 FPS? I seem to remember testing it and the 1080 seemed to compress the video more?

FYI. Just found out there is a firmware update out there to alleviate the freeze ups it encounters. I forgot about that glitch too.

No. I have just been running 720 @ 6 FPS on your recommendation!

I really haven’t used mine a whole lot to this point. Now that the kiddo is starting to get more active, I have plans to use it more, and I also plan to shoot some waterskiing and wakeboarding stuff this summer. Just got a new 32 gig SD card for it yesterday…that gives me 6 hours of video to play with!

    Nice!

I need top Google it a little like I said before to figure out if I should replace the factory card. Maybe I should upgrade to not only a bigger card, but one with a faster transfer rate.

I think I am going to upgrade the firmware, but that looks like a little chore. Time to back everything up again.

Well, please post any findings that you come across in your research (and dumb it down for us non-AV/IT people).

This is what resides in my Playsport now:

I haven’t said anything confusing yet, have I?

I uploaded 3 videos. Well, 2 for sure, I may have to re-upload the last one. 2 are underwater shots and the 3rd is filming with the macro setting. I forgot about the macro setting too, which also works like a charm for close shots! I thought the macro one had that double speed glitch I was talking about, but now I don’t know. I am beginning to think it just looks that way when there is a lot of movement in the frame or the camera moves.

Confusing or when I say something that just doesn’t make any sense?
