Pedestal seat base – what type?

I’m going to install a pedestal seat on the front casting deck of my boat. Since there isn’t a base installed yet I get to choose what type. So what are the advantages of one over the other (3/4” vs. Spring-Lock vs. Plug in vs. Taper-Lock)? I won’t be putting a full seat up there, just one of those small ones to lean against while chasing smallies.

    Thanks,

    Dan

I’ve had a few and my choice is the Springfield Spring-Lock 1.77″ diameter.
They make a very nice power pedastal for using as a Butt seat.
Have used the 2 1/4″ swivel Eze and didn’t care for them. Had one pop out on me once on LOTW up front, I was by myself and almost went over board (yes, with trolling motor running). The spring-Locks stay put unless you want them out.
    Just my $.02

Dont buy the taperlock. In the past ive had them on 2 boats, and nothing but trouble. They get stuck in the base and are a problem to get out.I prefer plug in bases, never any trouble at all. What do you have on youre boat now. Try to keep them uniform in case you want to move seats around. Just my opinion.

X2. Keep them the same as you might want to move
Seats around. You can put a seat on with any base.
