Have a late 80’s Johnson 15 hp just wondering how to figure a value? Are there some good websites?

It is worth as much as someone wants to pay for it. Check Craigslist for similar motors and go from there. I have found that in MN small outboards really hold their value compared to other parts of the country.

$800-$1000 assuming it’s running well and depending on how good of condition. This assumes you are going to sell it now in peak selling season.

    X2 – if it’s in really good shape, maybe 350 -400 range.

You see many of them out on Craigslist in the $600+ range that just keep getting reposted, not selling.

I’m guessing around $700, but start higher. With Craig’s list there is little risk in overpricing it. You can log on and change your price at any time for no charge. There are buyers 100 miles away so do your ad right if you want the motor to get top dollar. To get them to travel that far they must believe the goods are exactly what they want. So take good photos. Get it out into the daylight with an uncluttered background like a closed garage door. Use the auto exposure and focus to get sharp photos and fill the frame on each photo. Craigs let you insert 4 photos for no charge so why not show 4. Do a good job of describing your motor, make, model, year, condition, short or long shaft, electric or rope start. List any extras like a spare prop, fuel tank, owners manual etc. I always like to include a short explaination why I am selling. You do that and your ad will be better than 90% of the other ads you are competing against.

I would list it $100 higher than you want to get or what you feel it’s worth after your research. 250-350 seems about right i guess.

You boys can just call me with all good condition and better 1980s and later outboards you want at these prices. The Ol’ Grouse will take them off your hands. Don’t even bother to post them on Craigslist, that’s just a waste of time.

What 15 HP OMCs are you seeing in the late 1980s range that are getting posted and reposted at $600?

$250-300? Are you kidding me? Late 80’s 9.9’s are going for over $600.
