I know it Steve, just when you think you’ve heard it all. Doesn’t gopher holes do damage to mowing equipment. Shooting a gopher with an arrow and got administrative leave?

I am not surprised in the least…He would have survived a drug or alcohol problem, an extramarital affair with a collegue, etc… But killing a defenseless pocket gopher during PE class???

    Helluva shot though…

Well, this proves to me that the our school system is full of some really ——-wing nuts. Maybe he should be worrying about his pension and healthcare instead of a gopher. I would think that many of the students will be bow hunters so the death of a gopher is hardly worrisome. Now if a person outside the class has a problem with it maybe it should stay away from the practice.

X2 most schools have financial problems start killing and turning in gopher feet, kill enough and they might be able to get a few more bows and arrows for the class!

I say he is a great teacher. Most gym classes treat this type of exercise as a joke and clown around. He demonstrated that archery equipment is not a toy and that proper training and skill levels can result in extreme accuracy. 25 yers from now at the class reunion it will still be talked about. Nobody will remember how to solve the quadratic equation from Math class.

Sorry guys, but I’m going to have to disagree on this one. Archery is one of those courses that is being discontinued at many schools. We shot archery in middle school and I know that they don’t do it anymore at that school. The school will hire the teacher back and then just get rid of the archery program all because someone didn’t follow the rules. I don’t agree with that logic, but it will happen. It was a stupid thing to do and it will mean that future kids won’t get to take this course in high school.

Here’s my thought, the Principal is probably a U of M grad and that teacher killed his mascot.

When I think of the crappy bow and arrows we used in High School gym class, all I can say is holy crap, what a shot.

Bob Dockendorf, the principle, is my brother in law… believe me, he probably would have done the same…(shot the gopher, although maybe not in front of 30 kids) he is not only a deer hunter, he is a bowhunter. His hands are tied…

Exactly the reason why his hands are tied. It’s how the system works nowadays.

I would guess it might have something to do with a Super Intendent or School Board. Finding 1 person (principal) in that crowd that isn’t a bleeding heart would be difficult. Finding 2 or more.. impossible.

They should take the kid that cried and move him and his family to California. Sounds like he would fit in just fine….

Why would a teacher not have enough common sense to just continue target practice.

Nice shot… Yes!!!….And it’s not a Big deal to most!!!

However it was not a smart move on his part…

I wouldnt say it has anything to do with COMMMON SENSE. It has more to do with the natural progression of man over time. If I have a bow n arrow in my hand and a rodent pops up anywhere close to me I’m grippin’ n rippin’ FO SHO! I blame it on evolution.
