Looks like he was shot based on this. He was a stud on the field in his day. Met him on a golf course in San Diego about a dozen years ago or so. Nice guy it seemed.

Saw that too.. Terrible. Terrible. Especially more if that text message implies what it’s trying to say.

Yeah, I found another news item that says they suspect the gunshot was self inflicted. Very sad.

Man. This brings back memories of last summer and the 3 NHLers that died.

8th member of the 94 SB team to die. Now THAT’S a stat. Not sure what it says or what’s in the water out there, but that’s a high number.

I’ve said this many times and to anyone that will listen, concussions will be the end of the NFL IF there aren’t major changes to the game and punishments. I think the commish feels the same way and that’s why you see all of the huge fines and suspensions for certain hits. Not to mention all of this bounty stuff going on. The NFL needs to show that it has a track record of trying to protect the players long term life or they will lose everything in the not so far future.

What more can the NFL do? i agree 100% the game is getting too fast and out of control but there are already penalties for hitting someone too hard. To be honest, i doubt he shot himself.. he was shot in the heart, i know he played in the nfl but nobody is that dumb!

I think this is the second time he tried to kill himself, the first time being last year taking a car off the road.

That being said, how do WE really know concussions were the cause of this other than what the newspapers tell you ?

Now Mike Webster of the Steelers, that is somebody you can say concussions shorted his life, I would agree.

I am not sure that is true for Seau. I do not think he had a history of concussions. It is possible he just played through them, yes.

I just think we should not jump to conclusions.

I don’t think concussions have anything to do with it. i think not being in the headlines and being forgotten has more to do with it.

The “rumor” I heard was that he shot himself in the chest was to give medical researchers the chance to look at his brain to do further investigation about concussions, etc.

How many suicides by self-inflicted gunshot are not to the head?? A very, very small percentage!

Junior has had issues with depression… either way a very, very sad story.

Watch, they will find he is on SSRI’s,Valium or some other form of antidepressant. Chicken or the egg. Is it the medication or the depression? I know of 10+ that have done themselves in once on meds.

I myself would never judge the reasons anyone would take their own lifes.

I watched the news last night about a 13 year old young lady that took her own life due to being bullied in school, I will never forget for the rest of my life the note that she left her family.

Watching the heart ache of Jr.s mother, and to see her break down brought tears to mt eyes.

I think it is just has to be one of the hardest things the surving family members have to deal with.

    It was a sad day.

I also read that he shot himself in the chest so his brain could be studied, and that he was not the first ex-NFLer to do so.

Sad, sad stuff any way you slice it!

Amen. All jokes aside I do battle mild mental illnesses. Nothing close to contemplating anything like that, but I do understand how hard it is to deal with things like that. Well, kind of. I can only imagine how bad it must be for someone who is X10s worse than me.
