i was looking at trucks online on lunch break today and called a dealership in Perry, Iowa bout a 78 f150, 4×4, 5 speed. price tag 800 dollars. I tell them i can put down 500 and pay 100/month. now this is only 300 left right? they still want to run a credit check! what the hell? for 300 dollars? I was wanting another dodge anyway. lol, maybe i can put a 318 and a 727 in my ford!

I do realize not all of us are in the same financial status.
Don’t take this the wrong way but look at it from a business perspective…

You are only paying $500 of an $800 truck.

I’ve been through a lot of trucks around that vintage and never saw one with a 5 speed. All of the ones I’ve had first was so low you drove it like a 3 speed. All were great trucks and took a lot of abuse with no failures.

Seriously, is it even worth the paperwork to finance 300.00?

From the perspective of a business owner, I would say yes.

Every deal counts Look at it this way, whether it is a $40,000 truck or a $800 truck, your asking them to float you 38% of the cost. Not likely to happen, that’s just how good honest business is done

Call them tomorrow and tell them you will send $500 tomorrow and another $100 on the 1st. for the next 3 months. Then mention you will come and pick the truck up on August 2, 2012.

I’m sure they will work with you.

lol, honest car salesman? i bet he didnt give more than 500 for the whole thing! never did much dealings with bankers or car dealers. Down around Mystic and Brazil Iowa, a hand shake and and a mans word still means something.

and where i’m from, paying the full cash amount up front on items in that price range makes hand-shake deals a lot easier for everyone…

just save you money up for a couple months and hope it’s still available.

That businessman does not work for the church, and thus is trying to make a profit. Profit and the exchange of value for value is what built this great country of ours. He doesn’t know you from Adam, and thus would like some guarantee on his money. You are asking him for a loan, and he would like you to establish your credit. Sounds reasonable to me.

I reckon yalls right. Still, planning a trip to my home town this weekend. Still think for $300 bucks I’d meet with the person to decide. A lot more to a man then a credit score.

On a man-to-man deal, maybe, but in a business, when expaining a loss to an accountant there isn’t.

Also, it is a 35 year old truck. I am suprised that they offered any financing at all.

The salesman said ” For the best deal how about 100% down and no payments.” Works everytime.
