One of the coolest things about IDO is the wealth of new information that I learn from all of you. With so much talk over the past few weeks about Morels I’ve been curious to find out for myself what all of the fuss was about, so this weekend while walking some new hunting property I decided to see if we could find a few.

Armed with all of the tips from fellow IDOers I had a pretty good idea of what to look for so when saw an area that looked good we kept our eyes open and low and behold there they were… My first morels!

Last night we had my girlfriends parents over for dinner and cooked up a few along with some grilled venison backstraps and they were fantastic. Everyone loved them and now they can’t wait to come out and try hunting themselves someday We cooked ours up simply by sautéing them in butter. What is everyone else’s favorite way to cook morels?

Thanks to everyone from this site for being willing to share such great info with the rest of us. Without the knowledge I have gained from this site I never would have thought about hunting morels

Also a big thanks to Brad and Kooty for the entertaining weekend… Without you guys I never would have thought it was possible for a grown man to do a cartwheels across the top of a bar

The last pic has nothing to do with morels, but is just a cool shot of a litter of baby coons that we found in a hollow tree… As much time as I’ve spent in the woods this was a first for me as well.

    Your morels look wonderful.

An addition to that meal would have been fiddleheads, which are just coming up now. Pick them when they are just 1″ high, sautee them in butter and yummy. You can also blanch them in boiling water for 30 seconds and eat them as a salad.

Also, watch your trout streams for water cress. Makes an incredible salad also.

approx 2/3 fry majic and 1/3 flour cooked in butter on med low heat. 100% fry majic is just too “rich” for my liking and 100% flour is just too bland. It’s a nice combo.

Great find. Was that up around Mille Lacs?

We noticed ferns yesterday that where knee high and figured the fiddleheads had come and gone. This was just north east of the twin cities. Thinking about it I have picked them on opener around floodwood mn.

We were over in Buffalo County this time, but I will be taking a look around our farm and cabin in Malmo while I’m fixing fence and doing some food plots over the next few weeks.

Ritz crackers (ground or rolled with rolling pin), flour, salt, pepper! I use 2 parts crackers to 1 part flour, salt & pepper to taste. Mix 2 eggs & milk, add Morels to egg wash! bread morels in crackers & flour. pan fry in canola oil! Great Pics!!

I feel like I have bugs crawling all over me, and probably do…
