I was diagnosed two years ago. I went to my annual eye exam on friday and found out i’m rapidly losing my eye sight in my left eye. Anyone over 30 or with a family history should get checked. 5 shots in the stomach everyday isnt fun either.

April 30, 2012 at 2:15 am #1063754I’ve been having vision problems and feared diabetes. No family history other than a cousin had it. My blood worked checked out fine for glucose levels and what not, but I have hi triglycerides? Next step is going back to eye doctor and then possibly more blood work. They are making me wait 3 months for the blood work retry.
Anyone else have hi triglycerides? If so, what was your diagnosis?
April 30, 2012 at 2:25 am #1063758Mine Tri count was 1100 two years ago. Its now 250 or so. I take Tricor. It helps with both high cholesterol and triglycerides. High triglycerides means the amount of saturated fat in your blood vessels. Anything over 500 is a b ig risk for a heart attack.

for the ones that love youApril 30, 2012 at 1:05 pm #1063818My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 10 months ago. She uses an insulin pump to dispense her doses of insulin and checks her blood sugar a minimum of 5 times daily. While I would not wish diabetes on anyone I will say the pump has been a real gift.
Diabetes is an epidemic taking over a lot of lives. While great strides are being made for a cure it is still years out in the United States. I believe Canada and maybe Europe have an artificial pancreas approved for use. I can tell you Medtronic is a great company leading the way in accessories in controling type 1 diabetes. Check out their website.
April 30, 2012 at 2:05 pm #1063852I tried getting the Omni Pod pump but my insurance wont cover it. My buddy had his A1C go from 9.5 to 6.5 on the pump.
April 30, 2012 at 2:12 pm #1063859I have been Type I since 18 yrs old….I am now 35, I take 4 shots a day, test my glucose multiple times a day. I have seen a ton of development since my diagnosis on 12/05/94 and I have begun to research and save for the pump from Medtronic, I believe the pump gives better control vs. shots. My vision is still good, my doctor tells me my numbers for good for someone with Type I. Diabetes works your body so hard, it works your organs much harder as well, without proper control your long term damage to organs, limbs and vision only increases. Taking control now increases you living with Diabetes that much longer. It is a tough disease, but you can manage it. If anyone has any questions, concerns, or just wants to chat about diabetes, send me a email, pm me.
April 30, 2012 at 5:45 pm #1063972Its amazing how just walking 30 minutes a day lowers your blood sugar.
May 1, 2012 at 1:37 pm #1064293I also have been a type 1 since I was 20. I have had my ups and downs also. For me its because I would behind a desk 5 days a week and play hard on the weekends. Two completly different lifestyles. Much like the others taking the 3 short acting and 1 long lasting helps me meet those requirements. Insulin has come a long way! Heck when I was first diagnosed the old saying on the A1c was 7 heaven 8 great 9 fine. My doc would have me in monthly if I came in at 9! I also feel the medical pinch$$$$$$$ HSA plans are not diabetic friendly….
Arnie NicholsPosts: 40May 1, 2012 at 5:18 pm #1064406I was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago because I was exposed to agent orange in nam. If any of you were in nam, you should check this out. I learned of the connection through AARP. This was a couple of years after being diagnosed. Went to the local VA rep and filled out some paperwork. Right now I am at 30% disabled and may be going for 50% because I developed peripheral neuropathy in my left foot and right arm. Not fun that’s for sure.
