lol, no its still broke. The relevance of my statement about indians and england to the topic is the FACT that throughout American History whites (yes i am one) have taken on the mentality that they own everything and should be in controll. An earlier post about native americans and killing eagles as a part of their culture. Yes there are still indians around, but anytime they do something we dont like or “getting special treatment” guess what, most people think its unfair. I was trying to show my opinion by relating it to historical subject that i believed most would agree on. I apologize if i was being to abstract but not for my opinion.

And exactly what is the problem with this?
April 27, 2012 at 3:05 pm #1063183Yeah….. and the lions walk around in the bush like they own it…..
April 27, 2012 at 3:13 pm #1063185Tribes decimated other tribes, not much different than what some say we are doing/did, but I don’t think I’ve heard of any wolves taking over a area from humans so I don’t see how what we did to the ndians has anything to do with wolf’s.
I do see both ends of the argument squaring off and little compromise.
Pug said it right when he said management is what’s needed. Not eradication.

April 27, 2012 at 4:12 pm #1063211Commercial mentions trapping for pelts when in fact they will be shot for what boils down to fun because pelts aren’t ready by deer season. I’m for control but they should time the season with prime fur.
April 27, 2012 at 5:39 pm #1063249Just visited a rancher last weekend, we hunt thier land in northern MN for deer every year.
They have had cattle and calves confirmed by the DNR as being killed by wolves this spring and so far the federal trapper has trapped 3 wolves on their property.
Wolves are incredibly common and they are present in FAR greater numbers than the USFWS is letting on.
Bottom line: Whack ’em and stack ’em if the season comes! You can be assured that everyone in our party will have a wolf license if it’s during deer season this year and we will be killing whatever wolves we see to the full extent of the law.
Better get ready Mr. Big Bad Wolf. I’ve got a 7 MM slug with your name on it.

Except for the fact that it was agreed that there would be a 5 year moratorium after they were de-listed…not that I agree there should be, but it is a fact.shady5Posts: 491April 27, 2012 at 6:05 pm #1063264I’ve got to say the wolves are a little more interesting to have around than cows….
It seems that they invoke fear in people that is manifested as machismo. I have no stake in the game, but let’s not imply that shooting some dumb animal makes you a bada$$.April 27, 2012 at 6:21 pm #1063271Make no mistake the group “Howling for Wolves” is just another animal rights group with its main agenda of putting a end to all hunting. Dont care what their message is I wont buy into it. If some of you guys want to buy into this maybe start with setting your bows, firearms and traps out at the curb side with your trash. You will be giving them what they want.

No, I think most intelligent people would agree that, when done correctly, shooting at wolves makes the wolf’s a$$ dead. It’s not a lot more complicated than that.
The hunter’s a$$ (bad or otherwise) should not enter the picture.
Take care o’ your own bad self, now. And don’t be out there hugging any bunnies or wolves because I might open fire at any time.
BTW, you would probably find cattle more interesting if your livelihood depended on them staying alive. I’m not in favor of wiping wolves out, but they are present in vastly greater numbers than has been implied by organizations interested in keeping them under protected status. Management is needed and will actually benefit the wolves in the long term becuase if the situation isn’t brought under control soon then a far greater kill will be needed in the near future.

April 27, 2012 at 6:32 pm #1063278LOL. I went to their site where you can send a letter. They had 2 points and 2 were really reaching. Here are the 2 dumbest reasons they had.
Quote:
– Wolves help keep our streams and forests healthy, and help balance our state’s ecosystem by keeping foraging populations low. This allows trees to grow to maturity and helps maintain healthy habitats for our state’s birds and fish.
O really?Quote:
– Wolves have notable economic benefits with regards to tourism. Wilderness enthusiasts and eco-tourists outnumber hunters by 4:1 and bring in more money to the state.
Where do they get this figure? I can guarantee you that 100% of the 4 come to see wolves.desperadoPosts: 3010April 27, 2012 at 7:40 pm #1063306Quote:

I usually get pi$$ed off, at some point, while watching a Walt Disney movieApril 27, 2012 at 7:43 pm #1063308“I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic’s
His hair was perfect”Thanks Mr Zevon.
April 27, 2012 at 8:02 pm #1063315Owwwwwwooooohhh… Werewolves of London….. hmmmm…. seems they may have followed us here from England afterall

I’ll glad to meet you in person to “discuss” this.desperadoPosts: 3010April 27, 2012 at 10:04 pm #1063329Argh, that came out wrong. I meant I can guarantee you that in the ratio 4 ecotourist to every hunter ratio, not all 4 are here to see wolves. In fact a guarantee that number probably includes more than just ecotourist. I think they pulled that number out of their wolf chewed butthole.

The 5 yr moratorium agreement was from years ago when they were first delisted. Since then several groups with $$ have drug the mess through the courts. So really the management plan is overdue.
April 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm #1063393Ill be the first to admit that I am a little over protective when it comes to wolves because they are my favorite animal. After some thought, I can see the point of management due to reduced habitat and the overall health of the population. I just get irritated when the reason given is based on hate over lossed profit. So as long as the hunt goes along with the management plan than ok I guess. I was just always tought that hunting was for food, not a troph. So I guess I will respectfully have to agree to disagree. As far as human personification on animals, I don’t believe there is any proof one way or another so I will continue to fall on the side that they do have feelings. Another point we will have to agree to disagree. Its all about an individuals own values and convictions. Nothing wrong with either side.

Aw, take my personification comment with a grain of salt. If you heard how I talk to my dogs, people would probably want to throw up. Not only that, but I talk to wildlife, including friggen bugs. So me crying about people personifying animals is quite hypocritical.I don’t hunt. But to me it seems like there are 2 types of hunters. Some who talk with a lot of machismo who come off as very disrespectful of the sport. But I am sure a lot of it is just bravado.
desperadoPosts: 3010April 28, 2012 at 3:58 pm #1063405Is it acceptable then for a person to hunt wolves if the hunter is gonna eat ’em?
