Many years ago I put 3 different weather webstie links on our Walleye Searchers club links page at http://www.walleyesearchers.com/links.html (they are all set for Red Wing’s weather)

Several days before thinking of going fishing I frequently look at all three of these links, plus watch the official weather on the Rochester TV weather channel 21.

This way I get 4 different predictions– if the predictions are more than 2-3 days into the future they usually all wrong (you may just as well flip a coin). But, if it is just 1 day into the future, then they are usually correct.

So far, I have not found one website that is consistently better than the others.

Bobber, Thank you for this info. I get frustrated listening to weather reports that do no offer wind reports. Very good information. Thanks for sharing.

    Hey gang:

Because I have to keep an eye on the weather working to keep members and their guests safe on the golf course I mainly use the NOAA weather at this link, http://www.nws.noaa.gov/. I am mainly looking for radar information and severe weather info. Once this site comes up, then click on the portion of the map and it will give you info that you want about that area. It does give wind speed, however when I was in Florida this spring, I found that it was fairly useless. Still a good overall site to get an idea whats going on.

The other radar that was given to me by a pilot was the Iowa Channel.com @ http://www.theiowachannel.com/wxmap/949827/detail.html. Hopefully this greatlakes map will come up and give you an idea of what is going on with storms and such before you go out. When you get to the home page, go to the doppler map and open it. Above the map, there is a drop down menu to select maps from all over the country. I select great lakes and it takes care of the the midwestern states.

I always put my final trust in the National Weather Service (NWS) — find your local office online ….. generally, our local office becomes much more accurate when we are looking at potential severe weather … thats when vince takes over … its his job …. (part of my job is activating emergency resources when bad weather is expected or happening) ….. you have to know your local geography and normal weather patterns …… when I was at Everts there were some threatening clouds, and I used Steve’s puter to look at the local … which was meaningless to me because I didn’t know the geography ………. I consult other sites/resourses, but ……. when its serious, that is where I place my trust … and make emergency response plans/decisions …. anyway, pick one main system, explore all links they offer, learn it well, then go with it.
