In the market for a new push mower to mow a city sized lot. There no hills so a self propelled is not required. Currently have a LawnBoy that is getting tired. Any recommendations?

After buying my first Toro 11 years ago, I will never go to another brand. I now have a Toro blower and mower. The most reliable small engine I’ve ever had.

Toro!
I just got a new toro and like it so far. However it is hard to push it when non powered by the self propelled.
My buddy got the toro push model with the electric start and that is sweet.

April 26, 2012 at 3:03 pm #1062795do you want to cut the grass, or do you want to maintain a lawn? big difference.
the Honda with mulching option (2 stacked blades) works like freaking magic. you’ll pay a little more but you will get a lot more.
April 26, 2012 at 3:06 pm #1062801If you want a cheap one, go spend $150 at any big box store. It will work fine, but you’ll get what you pay for.
I bought a new one a few years ago. Toro and Honda seemed to be the best options by far. I went with a Toro and couldn’t be happier with it. Expect to spend $500, give or take.
April 26, 2012 at 3:11 pm #1062804Troy-built. Run great and quite and has a lot of torque. They will cut neglected grass 5ft high, maybe not that high, and hardly bog down and the grass clippings get cut up so fine even in tall grass clumps are a rarity to rake up.. They use a curved blade instead of a straight one mixed with the torque even small trees get turned into dust.

Everything he said X2.
April 26, 2012 at 3:24 pm #1062818TORO 22″ (56 cm) Personal Pace® (20332)
Picked one up this spring, I think they are about $379.
Granted I have only cut twice with it, but very smooth and very easy operation.
No choke, no priming, pull it and it starts.
The best feature is the Personal Pace portion. You just walk, don’t think about pushing it to start it moving, just start walking. It is very sensitive. The best part is never having to take your hands off of the mower handle to engage or disengage the self propel mechanism. Makes for quicker mowing and less fatigue.

The Toro personal pace is the greatest push mower imo. I have had one for 11 years. If it died tomorrow, I would immediately buy another.
April 26, 2012 at 3:38 pm #1062824I have a Toro personal pace and love it. Don’t pay extra for e-start if you can pull…mine starts 2nd or 3rd pull all the time. I have e start and used the first summer then the battery crapped out and I’ve just been pulling since.

I agree with everything he said, love mine…

Same here, but about 8 years. Mine does have a primer…1st pull 95% of the time, never pulled more than twice Sharp blades = Great cut
deertrackerPosts: 9237April 26, 2012 at 4:31 pm #1062849Wow based on the responses so far the Toro Personal Pace 20332 is the mower of choice. Can you shut off the personal pace feature? This just seems like one of those things that can break.
Palerider77Posts: 630April 26, 2012 at 5:08 pm #1062856I have been trying to break mine for three years, it still runs great. I don’t see any need for a lock out.
April 26, 2012 at 5:10 pm #1062857Just bought a Toro 31inch Timemaster with personal pace.Fast and smooth!
Have a Ariens in the classified.Heck of a good mower.April 26, 2012 at 5:53 pm #1062880I’m going to buck the Toro Trend and say Snapper or Honda.
The difference between the discount store specials and the Toro / Honda / Snapper mowers is in the details. The wheels roll better, the height adjusters work better, etc, etc. Everything is just that little bit better.
The Snappers I’ve owned have been warriors. I love their self-propelled mechanism because it’s all out in the open and every part of it can be replaced easily.
Honda might be better overall, but the thing with Honda that I’ve experienced is that their power equipment parts are about 2x the cost of the same part for a different brand. I replaced a wheel on my dad’s Honda self propelled. Cost? $85. I’ve had the same experience with snowblower belts on Honda blowers. They are double the cost of the belts for the Snapper blower that I have at home.
Grouse
April 26, 2012 at 8:40 pm #1062957I run toro for my business and personal pace for our small jobs runs great get beat to hell and still works. 350 or so cost if I figured in how many times it gets used it has cost me pennies a year to work. I have Honda to but toro is better. Funny.
April 27, 2012 at 12:43 pm #1063136Thank you everyone for the feedback. Guess I will be picking up a Toro Personal Pace.
