I went on the hunt for a few hours today after not a lot of action yesterday. I left the fly rod in the truck and strictly hunted mushrooms. Attached are some pix of the fungi along with some dead elm trees for reference. In regards to the Morels I Look for mossy areas with dead elms, not with the bark off but rather a tree that is in the process of decay. Stay on top of the hill where the sun penetrates and the rain water settles in. Grab a nice walking stick and when u find a group get down low and scan the area, I will almost guarantee there will be more. I found both black and yellows.

    Rib eye here I come!

what is this cold weather gonna do to them? Dose anyone else think it is early here around the twin cities or is this a great, average or poor year?

I would say we are half we through. The cold weather will help keep the ones that are up now from going away too quick. but not good for quick new growth. Sunny areas will be key for that new stuff. I would say a not so great year so far. Dry. Best Black season we ever had early but whites have been slim compaired to last year so far
