Was just noticing all the flowering going on in our real apple trees (not crab apples).

I just have two trees but one of them has only produced fruit once before in last 8 years. That tree has a ton of buds on it today. Bees are in there doing their thing.

The other tree regularly produces and is also full of flowers today.

Anything I should be doing to these trees to help them produce?

    Thanks,

    Eric

It’s a bad year for my apple tree this year. two flowers only and it snowed that day too. Maybe time to chop it down…lol.

Yet, a Not so great year coming for many Orchards/Apple grower’s. This was on KARE11 1-1/2 weeks ago, says he lost 90% of his crop due to the Freezing Temps 2-weeks ago.

Depends. If your trees are early varieties that flowered and got stung, bad year. If your trees are late keeping varieties that are just flowering could be a good year.
    I have some of each.

I’ve got five trees (One short of being a legal orchard….) and for several years, they all bloomed and produced pretty consistently. For the last three years, one tree (different tree each year) didn’t produce well. The only one that has been solid every year is one we use for Cider. I assume that it too will take a year off, but it sure doesn’t look like this year.

I had a good polination rate with the two trees I’ve got. You can see the apples swelling right behind the flower, some are the size of a pea, it looks good this year. My peach tree is just loaded with small pea sized peaches. My pear did ok too but not alot.

You guys ever tried Honey Crisp apples. I cant get enough of them in the fall. Expensive but well worth it.

I’m not sure how you can increase the productions of apples on your apple trees. I have a garden with one apple tree and it regularly has some apples in fall, so I don’t know how you can influence that. Maybe with dung? Last year I also ordered some dung at http://www.serenata.com for my garden. Maybe this helps you?
