Well I have a 2005 mercury 4 stroke big foot tiller and I was talking with griz last weekend and noticed his 40 hp Suzuki trim tab is cocked I think it’s the trim tab it’s the grey piece in this pic at an angle and he said it makes the motor a lot easier to steer so I was wondering if I need to move mine or if that’s just for Suzuki motors? Mine is straight

Do you feel like you’re fighting your motor? By that I mean do you feel like the motor tries to “pull” to one side when you’re on plane? If so, turning the torque tab in the opposite direction can alleviate some of that. Typically you’ll want to make small adjustments to find the right position. Once you have it where you want it… it is a set it and forget it deal.

I should set mine on my IO also. Looking down are they normally rotated clockwise or counter??

They are only adjusted for tillers all wheel boats straight.

this trim tab is an anti torque adjustment my 25 hp mrc is back of tab as far to the right as it will go and then some–when it was straight it would pull your arm out of socket–once adjusted it will run straight with little or no presure–i believe it depends on the boat its on–mine is 14 ft flat–good luck–snagged

Just to be clear, trim tabs are a completely different thing. Trim tabs are hydraulically controlled flaps the go on the far left and right edge of the transom. They help adjust the trim of larger boats and they can also be used to counter wave action when running in certain sea conditions.

Adjusting the trim of a boat means to make an adjustment that makes the bow ride higher or lower under a given power setting.

What you’re looking at is the anti-torque fin or some have taking to calling it the anti-torque tab.

It’s position should be adjusted so that it counteracts the a boat’s tendency to veer left or right. Some boat/drive combinations have a strong tendency to do veer one way or another, some do not. It depends on the drive setup and the weight distribution in the boat.

Getting it set up relies on some trial and error. Make small adjustments and then test run between each adjustment.

Aha!! Not so. My engine manual says that if it pulls to side (as mine does) THE ROTATION TAB SHOULD BE ADJUST IN THAT DIRECTION TO COUNTERACT ROTATIONAL PULL…

But, it did say that it’s main function is electrolytic…
