I’m about to purchase a side imaging unit with a 7 inch screen(budget limits)- do you recommend the Humminbird 898 SI or the Lowrance HDS7 Gen2 w/LSS and why? I currently own Lowrance sonar units, but have had the chance to use and learn Humminbird SI the past year, very impressed!…..but I am intrigued by Structure Scan from Lowrance- help!

    I voted for HB.

    1. HB will always have years of experience in SI/DI before LOW released their version.

    2. Johnson Outdoors owns HB, LakeMaster and MinnKota. Great integrations of proprietary software are bound to come from that combination.

    3. I am still hearing LOW customer service horror stories all these years later. They are fewer than years past but they are not non-existent.

    4. HB continues to blow me away with updates to their legacy units and keeping the older units alive and their customers happy.

I voted HB also. Just personal preference. I’ve had an HB for 5 years with no problems, easy to run, and I love the upgrades like water level offset and depth shading. Makes it easier to run the line I want to run. That said it I could have one thing from the Low it would be how much more crisp their fish arc’s show in 2d then HB. Just my .02

X2, I think the 2-D is the one thing LOW has over HB.

Thanks for your input guys, HB is the way I’ve been leaning towards for many of the same reasons you have posted. I’ve heard nothing but great things about HB customer service and it is only 40 miles from my home, if needed.
