No, Norm Green was running away from a sexual harrassment scandel when he left for Dallas.

…AND very poor attendance just a season removed from a stanley cup final appearance.

More so from keeping a divorce from splitting up the team.

    I said AND.

Do you speak up against corporate tax breaks (not across the board but given to say just 3M for instance), farm subsidies or other government hand outs? One of my points is that people get all crazy and active about a stadium, but not much media hype or public outcry happens with the other stuff.

One could argue farmers and 3M provide a more valuable service and economic impact to society than pro sports.

I’ll have to argue that point Pug. He had a poor season ticket base but he had more then enough to cover his expenses. When he ran he was making money. He ran because of the harassment threat and maybe because he didn’t want to wait for the mall of America. When you look up the word “slime” you will find a photo of Mr. Green.

Agreed on both accounts but what happened as soon as we didn’t have a team?

Everyone is missing my point. Sure you could. I can argue the Vikings have a bigger impact. So what is the difference? People wet their pants over Ziggy Wilf.

Yeah, the star lest more because of Green’s inappropriateness. Also, I don’t think they actually demanded a new stadium before leaving.

They blew up Met Center and built a giant mall!

This is apples and oranges Will. Green slid on his stomach out of town without leaving his fans or the state any warning or options. When the Vikings leave it will be by the peoples choice of not funding a stadium for them. But, we will have had the choice unlike when slimey Green left.

I agree though, the end result will be a new stadium.

How many of you guys actually go to the home games on a regular basis?

    ——————————————————————————–

I do. Over a million every year attend the games, and if they don’t, no one will be watching them on the couch. The stadium has to get done.

Over a million? For eight home games that works out to over 125,000 people per game. The dome doesn’t hold that many people. And are we talking about one million tickets sold, one million butts in the seats, or one million different people going to the games?

The same 60,0000 people going to the games over and over represents about 1.5 % of the people in the state. Which is what I said in the first place: The vast majority of the people in Minnesota never go to Vikings game, but we’re all going to end up on the hook for a new stadium.

    you’re right, it’s 65000*8 + 2* probably 45000+ for the preseason games.

Regradless, you need those to go to watch it on tv and if they’re not in MN, they aren’t our team and you won’t be able to watch them very often then either since you’ll need NFL ticket. who still watches the Dallas Stars??? The LA Lakers?

Week in and week out, the Vikings games are top rated in Minnesota.

If they leave it will rip a big hole in MN and then 5 years later you can pay 2 to 3 times that for a new team because that is what will happen.

We need to get over it and get the stadium done.

yup, there defintely ARE times that I DO miss the point completely (or so the best wife tells me anyhow)
    and
yup, when the subject of gov’t preferences or subsidies for any business interest is being discussed (be it corporate or farm or whatever), I’m pretty consistently in opposition to such.

The Lakers wanted a new stadium…..Didn’t get it, they left. We built a new stadium and get the wolves.

The Stars wanted a new stadium…..Didn’t get it, they left. We built a new stadium and get the Wild.

On another point, the current Dome only is used by the Vikes for 10 days (give it 40 to 50 days of pre-post prep. Give it 10 weekends out of a 52 weekend year.
That leaves 42 other weekends that the stadium can generate revenue (like the Target Center or Excel Energy Center).

Ziggy is willing to pay almost half of the stadium that the “people” can use for 75% of the time. (Monster Truck jams, concerts, etc.)

Build them a new stadium, implement a casino in there, and let the stadium actually generate revenue.

Pug, not picking on you. But your post about farmer subsidies……They are the only business that purchases their goods retail, only to turn their product and sell it wholesale, all at the hands of Wallstreet (Chicago actually). I have no problem subsidizing farmers.

Seriously!?!?!? there are many sides to this. Obviously the NFL, the teams and players are making money but the boom to the economy for each home game is tremendous. Add in any national coverage that a city gets for a home game and that just adds to the payoff. It is a difficult topic. I would say the team and the NFL should pay a percentage for a stadium, say 40-60%.

Yes, the team and NFL should pay for a “percentage” of the stadium
a funding formula which has their contribution at 99% or more would be good

The Stars weren’t asking for a new stadium, were they? Kind of silly to ask for a new stadium when you barely can fill half of it.

Are you sure about the same for the Lakers? That’s before my time.

I would like the Vikes to get a new stadium, but Gary, c’mon man. I don’t remember the stars asking for a new arena, and the minneapolis lakers certainly did not leave over a stadium issue. The was waaaay before my time but the statement sounded ridiculous enough to have to look it up. I really don’t mean to be a jerk, but throwing out made up facts is not needed.

Made up crap? Huh? This is a fishing website, right? I didn’t know everyone here spoke the truth? I get my info from the Common Man and KFAN. That has to be true, right?
Lighten up Francis……nobody here is going to make one bit of difference. This has been ongoing for a decade.

Maybe I should have said “needed” instead of “wanted”.

Seems I remember the Stars left because of norm’s extracurricular activities and the Laker’s went looking for a bigger fan base, not sure what any of this has to do with the morons who want us to build a stadium though.

Al…who still hasn’t heard any of the “Pro” bunch vouluteer a few grand to help pay for it.

I don’t see this as a threat from the NFL, they are just stating fact. If we can’t get the team a deal on a new stadium, the fact is they might leave.

Man, I go out of town for a few days and miss all the good stuff!!

you know the funny part to all of this, if it does get done and the say the wilf’s kick in 4 million, the naming rights alone will be around 500 million which goes directly into their pocket, so if they kick in 400 they still make 100 million, if they are so rich kick it all in like a small business invest and trust in yourself, otherwise, move you wouldn’t make it anyway. So if they think on top of that they will get out state support and sponsorship they are so wrong, so let them flex their political muscles….it don ‘t mean sh#t money does and the owners have it….power play to increase taxes with most not realizing what’s happening
