I did a search back over the last year and found a lot of great information regarding HD video cameras, but not much on the editing software. What do you use, why, and how user friendly is it? (PC campatible – I don’t use MAC) Between trapping, predator hunting, and DYI fishing stuff; my goal is to follow the KISS method

Lots of stuff out there.
A couple of points:
1. buy adobe compatible
2. buy adobe compatible
3. buy adobe compatible…There is share ware that is compatible, but i’ve not tried it.
There is Adobe Premiere Elements and that’s what i use for the most part. It’s relatively user friendly, certainly in comparison to Adobe Premiere. <$100
The full blown package is more difficult and most likely way beyond your needs. > $500wkwPosts: 730April 19, 2012 at 2:36 pm #1060410I bought a Sony HD video camera and came with a PMB editing disc. I installed it and I like it, once I played with it for a while ( not a computer whiz)’
WKWApril 19, 2012 at 2:46 pm #1060423The free one is Windows Live Movie Maker which is a free download from Microsoft.
It has the basic tools to get the job done to cut and insert text etc. It does take quite a while to buffer the video at first, but you can upload to facebook and you tube from the program also.
I have Avid (Pinnacle) studio which is a more advanced program that uses layers and sound tracks etc that cost between $70 and $150 depending on what you get. To me its worth it because you can immediately start working on the Video versus Windows Live which takes forever to buffer.
Avid has a 30 day free trial.

I’d think Premiere or Avid would work. I haven’t used premiere in many, many years, but with Adobe you can’t go wrong. I am sure Avid is just as well, as they have been in the game for a while too.
Personally, I find MovieMaker clunky, hard to work with and doesn’t give you enough creative control.
I use iMovie on the Mac and it is about the same as MovieMaker. I’d like to have a little more creative freedom, but not make it more complicated or require more hours of editing.
April 19, 2012 at 3:21 pm #1060442I would look into this software also Randy.
They seem to “get it” and I can only assume it’s a decent product.

kuabzeejPosts: 41April 19, 2012 at 5:45 pm #1060550I use both Adobe products and Sony Vegas. Vegas would be an easier learning curve. Plenty of youtube videos out there to learn from, and even forums. I would think the biggest factor is storage since the price of HD are still on the upside.
If your not quick to purchase the software, keep an eyeout for deals and read up on what you feel will fit your needs between the different softwares. Do a google search for [H]ardForum and check out hotdeals. There are always people who glue them selves to different online retailers and post when there are specials, usually one day stuff and save your self a bit. Recently picked up Vegas 11 and a Blueray burner for $80bucks, free software with drive purchase. I recall there was also a recent Full Adobe CS Student & Teacher package for a hundred, a savings of 700bucks.
Forgot to ask, might help to post the type of system your running. All that CUDA stuff can be a headache.
